When we were in Florida last summer we decided to do something we haven’t done before and stay on-site at the Universal Orlando Resort. We wanted to be close to the action, be able to maximise our time and really soak up the Universal atmosphere.
In the end we decided to stay at one of the three Universal Orlando premier hotels to get the added benefits that come with staying there – early admission, complimentary transportation and Universal Express Unlimited passes.
The three premier Signature Collection Hotels are Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Universal’s Hard Rock Hotel. We chose Royal Pacific as it was the cheapest option for the dates we were looking to stay.
Where is Loews Royal Pacific Hotel?
The Loews Royal Pacific hotel is located in the grounds of the Universal Orlando Resort. It’s just a short walk from a dedicated Universal City Walk entrance or a short boat ride away. It could not be more well located for the Universal theme parks and City Walk area.
Parking at Loews Royal Pacific Hotel
Loews Royal Pacific has plenty of parking available just a stone’s throw from the hotel reception. However, this is chargeable even when staying at the hotel. The cost at the time of writing is $33 plus tax per night. The charge being per night rather than per day means that if you stay for one night, but go to the Universal parks for arrival day and departure day, you only pay the one charge – compared to paying a parking fee per day at the theme parks. We paid a total of $70.30 for car parking when staying at Royal Pacific for two nights and spending three days at the Universal parks.
The Loews Royal Pacific Hotel rooms
For our stay at Loews Royal Pacific we stayed in a Standard Room with 2 Queen Beds. The hotel offer different room configurations – as well as rooms with nicer views and club level rooms with added benefits but we, again, just went for the cheapest option which was perfect for our needs.
The room was a good size and as well as the two big beds, there was also a good size shower room, a TV, mini fridge and plenty of storage space. There were complimentary toiletries, plenty of towels, coffee making facilities and enough space for the four of us to spend time comfortably.
We found the room to be comfortable and we slept well but did find the air con to be quite noisy and were disturbed often by doors slamming and guests being loud in the corridors – not something that the hotel can really do much about.
The Loews Royal Pacific Hotel perks
The reason we stayed at Royal Pacific was to make use of the Signature Hotel perks. We had early admission to the theme parks, allowing us to get into and start exploring or queueing for rides up to an hour before the parks opened. We mainly used this to explore The Wizarding World of Harry Potter before it got busy, allowing us to take photos without hundreds of other people in them. It was also nice to wander around the shops before they got busy.
Staying at the hotel also enables you to make use of complimentary transportation to and from Universal Studios, Universal Islands of Adventure and the Volcano Bay water park. We loved getting the water taxi to and from the hotel. It was a lovely way to wind down after a busy day at the theme parks and was really well managed. A great way to travel!
The main highlight of our stay was having Universal Express Unlimited passes. These are your room key at the hotel and work from when you arrive until the end of your departure day – and every day in between. You can basically queue jump as many times as you like, using the special Express Pass lanes, allowing you to experience so much more during your time at Universal. We loved it. You can read more about our experience using Universal Express passes here.
One thing we loved about staying at Loews Royal Pacific was that we could arrive at the hotel early in the morning – 7am in our case – and pick up our room keys to start using straight away in the theme parks. We were surprised to find that our room was already available for us too – so we dropped our bags, freshened up and headed straight off to enjoy everything that Universal had to offer!
The Loews Royal Pacific Hotel facilities
Sadly, we spent all our time at the Universal theme parks and didn’t really spend much time at the hotel at all. It was purely a base to sleep. However, if you do have more time to enjoy the Loews Royal Pacific Hotel facilities, there’s a lot to do and enjoy.
Loews Royal Pacific has a lagoon-style swimming pool and beach with kidsโ play area that is purely for guests to use. There’s also a variety of on-site restaurants and lounges and a 5,000-square-foot fitness center.
We didn’t eat at the hotel – breakfast isn’t included with standard room rates – but we did grab hot drinks and snacks from the on-site Starbucks which was super convenient and not too bad prices either.
Staying at Loews Royal Pacific Hotel
We had a really nice stay at Loews Royal Pacific and would definitely stay there again in the future. We could roll out of bed and be at Universal City Walk within a few minutes and being on site allowed us to really make the most of our days at Universal. The Express Passes were eye opening – I’m not sure we’ll be able to go back to standard queues!
