When we travelled to Billund Denmark in May half term we spent half of our trip at the Legoland Castle Hotel, having stayed at the Legoland Hotel on our previous visit two years ago. We then moved to Lalandia for the second half of our trip.
The Legoland Castle Hotel is right next door to Legoland Billund and could not be a better place to stay for a Legoland Billund holiday. We were so pleased with it as a base for our break.
The Legoland Castle Hotel
The Legoland Castle Hotel is split into two buildings, one with the main reception and restaurant plus rooms and the other just has additional rooms. We were in the main hotel building and it was nice to just come downstairs for breakfast rather than having to walk across from the other building.
The Dragon Knights Rooms
We were staying in a Dragon Knight room at the Legoland Billund and Castle Hotel we emailed ahead to let the hotel know that we’d be arriving late, any time up until midnight. They assured me that reception would still be open so, when we arrived, check in was seamless.
Although there were staff on reception we used a machine to check in – and it would have been nice if, after such a long day and journey, the staff had helped but we got there in the end. The machine printed us two keys and we headed for the lift to our room.
The rooms are located over three floors – ground, one and two, and our room was on the top floor. The Lego theming throughout the communal areas is fantastic and the children loved the sheer volume of Lego people and models that were on display. It was great!
Our room was easy to find and we absolutely loved it. The theming was outstanding, with a stained glass light up panel above the bed that really brought the room to life!
The room had one main double bedroom with a dressing table and storage, plus a bunk bed room for the children and a shower room in the middle.
Although we had a double bed, as is customary in Denmark, the bed had two single duvets on it. This felt equally odd and amazing to us! No-one steals the covers in Denmark!
The room had tea and coffee making facilities, plenty of towels and, much to the children’s delight, free wifi!
The children’s bunk bed room came with Lego to play with and a quest to do that we discovered the next day. They had to hunt out answers to clues around the Lego Castle Hotel to find the code to unlock a safe in their room – which contained lovely Lego set gifts for them. Such a nice treat.
Breakfast at the Legoland Castle Hotel
Breakfast was included with our stay at the Legoland Castle Hotel and it was a great way to start the day. You book a time for breakfast the day before and are then shown to a table when you arrive at the restaurant.
Breakfast was a buffet of pancakes, cereals, porridge fruit and cooked options like bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms. There’s also things like cheese, cold meats, salmon and so much bread and pastries.
There were also machines to get tea, coffee and juices from and we all found things we enjoyed for breakfast. However, I did find the breakfast at the Legoland Hotel on our last visit was better as it had more variety available and was hotter overall.
Legoland Castle Hotel play areas
The Legoland Castle Hotel has got play areas all around it – big ones in front and a whole castle to climb on behind it too. The children loved burning off some energy in the play areas before or after a day at Legoland.
The play areas are a great size for all ages and big enough to accommodate a lot of children playing at once too. Plus there was plenty of seating all around the play areas for parents to relax whilst the children played.
There’s also a Lego play area in the Castle Hotel reception which helped to keep kids entertained whilst adults were off talking to the staff or buying things in the shop.
Our Legoland Castle Hotel break
We loved staying at the Legoland Castle Hotel. It was nice and quiet overnight, we slept really well and the beds were really comfortable. Plus, it was so easy to get from the airport – just a couple of miles by bus or taxi.
It was also a super convenient place to stay for visiting Legoland, the Lego House and everything else that Billund has to offer. Everything is in really close proximity and the Legoland Castle Hotel was such a wonderful place to come back to at the end of a long day.
You can find out more about the Legoland Castle Hotel over on their website and there’s a little Reel over on Instagram of our stay.
