Although Little Man is now three he can’t manage the walk to school and back. We use a pushchair for this as well as on long days out – especially our regular trips to Legoland. We’ve been looking for a lightweight stroller for the last few months to save space in our car boot and to be easier to store at home.
When Silver Cross offered to send us their Silver Cross Zest stroller to review it couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s billed as a light pushchair from birth onwards and so isn’t the travel system kind – one that car seats can attach to.
What is the Silver Cross Zest pushchair like?
The Silver Cross Zest is a lightweight umbrella fold stroller. It weighs just 5.8kg. For such a light stroller it is surprisingly sturdy, not at all flimsy and durable enough to stand up to daily life with a three year old.
Little Man chose the Aqua fabric for his new wheels. The Zest comes in three other colour options to suit any family. The hood is fully extendable to completely cover the top half of a sleeping child. It reclines completely to a lie flat position, great for baby sleep and suitable from newborn.
What are the features like on this lightweight pushchair?
When the hood is extended it has a mesh panel in it so you can easily see your child. It’s great to be able to protect them from the sun or cover them when they’re sleeping. With this you are still be able to keep an eye on them without disturbing them.
Although Little Man is three the seat is really roomy. The high backrest means he is comfortable and fully supported. There’s a footrest and a padded leg rest that can be either up or down for optimum comfort.
The brakes are easy to operate with a foot lever and they work well. This is obviously something you don’t think about but we have had pushchairs in the past with really bad brakes on them.
The Silver Cross pram has a five point harness that’s fully adjustable and easy to fasten and undo. It also has a deceptively spacious shopping basket. This was bigger than I have experienced on any other umbrella fold stroller.
It’s perfect for storing a changing bag or a couple of bags of shopping. It easily fits LP’s school bags and drinks cups in it – or everything we need for a day out.
This Silver Cross stroller comes complete with a Silver Cross Zest raincover. The rain cover is easy to put on, has a compact fold for easy storage and fits really well too.
The stroller doesn’t have an official Silver Cross Zest footmuff but you can get universal footmuffs or, do what we do in the winter months, and take a blanket out with us as well as wearing a coat!
What were our overall thoughts of the Zest pushchair?
I’ve found the Silver Cross Zest really nice to push and goes up and down kerbs easily. The padded handles are a good height and even Dave, who’s nearly 6ft can push the Zest without any trouble.
The Silver Cross Zest is a perfect buggy for everyday use, weekends away or holidays. It has a carry strap to carry it easily when folded. Plus it’s really compact when folded. It has a one hand fold and has all the features a family would need from birth upwards.
Our toddler loves his new stroller and happily climbs in and out of it by himself. This product would be a great investment to move onto after a bulky travel system and once a baby can sit up unaided. Strollers are a great light weight choice and this is a really great option.
The Silver Cross Zest has an RRP of £130.00
Oh I miss the push chair days! So handy for carrying everything around, not to mention Jo moaning that their legs hurt 😉 Love the look of this one

We have just moved Holly across to a light weight stroller, but I can’t get on with it and I’m sending it back. I will have to take a look at this one, sounds good X
You can’t go wrong with a good push chair. We have a Maclaren and it’s my favourite push chair. It will go on our holidays next week as my 18 months old can’t walk yet plus in that heat I am sure she will sleep a lot. My nearly 4 year old can walk. 🙂 Even though he likes to be pushed every now and then in our double buggy when going for walks.
Can I just ask? Does the stroller topple over when you hang bags on the back? We had a Maclaren for our previous 3 children which was great but… it used to constantly topple over when I took little one out and had bags resting in the back! Was a real bugbear for me so I want to ensure my next purchase doesn’t have this annoying habit! Thank you
It only topples if there’s bags on the bag and no child inside – otherwise it’s fine 🙂 x
How big is the actual seat, my maclaren is too small!
