It’s no secret that pigs in blankets are pretty much the most important part of our Christmas dinner and they are something I look forward to throughout the year. We often have them as part of a buffet during the festive season and always make sure we cook a few too many to snack on or have in festive leftover sandwiches too.

Pigs in a blanket variations

Over the last few years I’ve made so many different easy pigs in blankets recipes – traditional pigs in blankets as well as maple glazed pigs in blankets and honey and mustard ones too. There’s nothing like a little bit of flavour to give a really lovely twist on a classic recipe. Don’t get me wrong, pigs in blankets aren’t the most healthy side dish but they’re definitely a tasty one!

So this year I thought I’d combine my favourite food of the festive season with something else we only ever seen to have at Christmas – caramelized onion relish. We usually save this relish – or chutney – for the cheeseboard but it makes an amazing marinade for pigs in blankets too.

This isn’t exactly a gourmet pig in a blanket recipe. Instead it’s a really simple homemade pigs in a blanket recipe that every family can enjoy at home over the festive season. It’s quick, perfect and delicious! Plus, you can also make pigs in blankets in the air fryer too!
