Visiting Citrus Tower – Clermont Florida
When we were in Florida over the summer we booked tickets to the Citrus Tower – thanks to a Groupon deal – and couldn’t wait to do something different, away from the world of Disney.
What is the Citrus Tower?
One of Floridaโs first attractions, the Florida Citrus Tower was built in 1956. The Citrus Tower is a tribute to Central Floridaโs citrus industry and the lush subtropical groves of Central Florida.
Once surrounded by thriving citrus groves, the Citrus Tower now gives views of the evolving landscape of a vibrant community. With a cafe on the ground floor and an observation deck on the first floor, it’s a compact but beautiful attraction that we really enjoyed visiting.
Visiting the Citrus Tower
When you arrive at the Citrus Tower you check in, or pay for tickets, at Citrus Coffee on the ground floor of the building. There is plenty of free parking right outside and the coffee shop is so nice and airy, with a really welcoming feel.
We bought drinks from Citrus Coffee to take up to the observation deck with us – iced coffee and other special cold drinks that could not have been more refreshing – and were great prices too.
Once our drinks were ready we headed for the lift. The tower only has two floors – the ground floor and the observation deck – so we got in the lift and went up one floor which took just a few minutes. There are also stairs to use in case of emergency.
The lift is covered in facts about the Citrus Tower which are great to read whilst you wait for the doors to open. The lift isn’t the biggest but fit our family of four comfortably and is nicely air conditioned too.
As soon as you step out of the elevator you are met with panoramic views of the landscape in all directions. It’s a real wow moment. There are seats and tables all around the outside of the tower and signs to tell you what is in each direction and how far you are away from the different landmarks.
There were a couple of people working during our visit, sitting with their laptops, appreciating the view whilst getting on with their work. I couldn’t imagine a nicer place to work from.
The whole of the observation deck has great air conditioning, is a lovely temperature and is so lovely and bright thanks to all the windows. It’s such a nice place to spend time.
We also loved the penny drop – where you drop a coin in and listen to it make it’s way all the way down to the ground. Simple fun!
We spent about an hour at the Citrus Tower but you can spend as long as you like there. plus, when you buy tickets they are open ended for that day so you can come and go as you please until the end of the day.
Citrus Tower tickets
We bought our tickets from Groupon which worked out at nearly half the standard cost for tickets. However, you can book tickets online or arrive and pay on the day. At the time of writing, tickets cost $11 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for children.
You can find out more about the Citrus Tower over on their website and for reference the address is: 141 North Hwy 27, Clermont, FL 34711
