Most chicken dishes we cook in the slow cooker use on the bone chicken but this Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe uses chicken thighs which work well in the slow cooker too and don’t get as dry as skinless chicken breasts. You could use chicken on the bone if you wanted but you would have to make sure all the bones were removed before serving.

Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe

We used to buy a sweet and sour sauce in a jar for years before we realised how easy it was to make in the slow cooker and we haven’t looked back! Now this crockpot sweet and sour chicken crock pot recipe is a regular feature in our meal plan.

How can I make this sweet and sour recipe a little easier?

Although there are traditional vegetables that you include in a sweet and sour recipe you can use any stir fry style vegetables, oriental vegetables or pretty much anything you have left in the fridge!

Unlike other chicken slow cooker meals, this healthy sweet and sour crockpot chicken doesn’t freeze very well so it’s best not made in bulk and just cooked and enjoyed in one sitting. We have this easy sweet and sour crockpot chicken for dinner regularly and either serve it simply with rice or with a few oriental sides for a hearty family meal.

  1. I had a go at this and I must say it was absolutely gorgeous. I had some leftover fresh noodles, so stirred them through at the end with the pineapple. Then served it with Mediterranean Rice
