Who doesn’t love a flapjack? And a chocolate chip flapjack is a whole new level – they’re divine! We usually make fruit or nut flapjacks – as well as plenty of plain ones – but love making chocolate ones every so often as an extra special indulgent treat.
How do you make chocolate chip flapjacks?
To make this chocolate chip flapjacks recipe you just need all the typical flapjack ingredients – light brown sugar, butter or margarine, golden syrup and porridge oats plus milk chocolate chips! All the ingredients are things you’re bound to have in the cupboards which is why we make these again and again.
Can you vary this easy chocolate chip flapjack recipe?
You can easily vary this recipe to use whatever you have in the kitchen. Although we usually use light brown sugar, you can use any sugar and maple syrup works just as well as golden syrup. You can also use any chocolate chips you fancy – if you feel like a white chocolate chip flapjack or a dark chocolate chip flapjack. You could even make triple chocolate chip flapjacks and throw all the chocolate flavours in together!
One thing to be aware of is that for this flapjack recipe you need to leave the mixture to cool before adding the chocolate chips. Otherwise the chocolate will melt and create chocolate flapjacks instead of a chocolate chip flapjack.
These flapjack oat bars store well in an airtight container for up to a week but they never last that long in our house – we always eat them within a couple of days!
