I have spoken about Little Manโ€™s love of classic wooden trains often and a couple of weeks ago Brio sent Little Man their BRIO World – Deluxe Railway Set to add to his collection.

The first thing we noticed about the train set was how perfect it would be as a first wooden train set or as the only train set in a family home as it comes with a cute but practical storage box perfect to keep the train set in when itโ€™s not being used.

What is the BRIO World Deluxe Railway Set?

The Deluxe Railway Set has so many pieces but comes with a good set of instructions to help you put it together. The set has one ground level of tracks as well as a raised level, a two storey train station complete with lift, a road section and a docks area complete with a working cargo crane.

Little Man was so excited by the whole train set. The first time we took everything out of the box he couldnโ€™t believe how many pieces there were.

One part of the set is an underground train metro style system with a station and tunnel. The train for this part has working lights and sounds that work automatically when the train moves.

Thereโ€™s also another passenger train as well as a cargo train and all three trains can open up to allow drivers, passengers, luggage or cargo to be put inside.

The set also comes with plenty of accessories – people, a suitcase, two different types of cargo for the ship and cargo train as well as signs for the underground. LP said that the set was like a whole city – and it really is. Itโ€™s as close to the bustling transport system of a city as you can get.

How easy is it to set up the BRIO World Deluxe Railway Set?

The train set was fine to put together using the instructions but would be a lot more difficult without them and although the storage box is a great idea it did take a few attempts to fit everything back in the box at the end.

Also, the box folds flat to be used as a playmat but the landscape on the playmat didnโ€™t see to match up with the train set layout so weโ€™ve just been using it as a box rather than a playmat.

That aside, the Deluxe Railway Set is immense. The children absolutely love it and thereโ€™s enough in the set to keep them both entertained and playing happily side by side for hours. This would make a great investment for any wooden train set fan or a great first wooden railway set for any child.

The BRIO World – Deluxe Railway Set has an RRP of ยฃ199.99

Hereโ€™s a little video we made of the set in action:
