Our Thames Rockets Experience
Last year for Dave’s birthday we did Up at the O2, climbing the O2 as a family. It was an amazing experience and we wanted to find something just as exciting to do this year. I spontaneously booked a Thames Rockets experience and couldn’t wait to get out on the Thames!
We arrived at the London Eye Pier fifteen minutes before our departure time as requested in our booking information. Jordan checked us in, gave us ponchos as the weather wasn’t the best, and then helped us all to put lifejackets on ready for our journey.
The Ultimate London Adventure with Thames Rockets
The Ultimate London Adventure is the standard, and most popular, Thames Rockets experience. It’s the original speed boat tour on the Thames and gives a London day out full of famous sights – with all the added thrills and spills of racing along on a Thames Rocket!
The Thames Rockets tour takes you from the iconic London Eye pier, past Canary Wharf into the Docklands and all the way back to the Houses of Parliament. Once past Tower Bridge, the speed gets ramped up and the real Thames Rockets experience begins!
You get to hear and feel the engines rev up and the boat goes up to 35mph. It’s exhilarating and so much more fun than I was expecting. If you think Thames Rockets is just another boat ride on the Thames you’d be really mistaken. It’s incredible.
We loved the soundtrack that played during our ride and the children’s faces were a picture. We were in Florida in the summer and it took us right back to the Rip Ride Rockit – all the fun of a rollercoatser with great music blasting out at the same time. It was the most fun we’ve ever had on the Thames – and I’m sure nothing else will ever come close.
On the way back there’s a more formal guided tour. Although it’s not really formal at all – but a lovely relaxed experience, tailored to the people on board.
Thames Rockets lets you take in all the sights from Big Ben to London Tower Bridge and the best thing for us about the tour was our guide – Geoff – who was hilarious and full of information. It was the kind of London trivia that anyone wants to hear but also, pointed out all the major sights for first time visitors. It was great!
I wasn’t surprised to learn that the guides are hand-picked straight from the stand-up and acting circuit. Geoff was great at making us laugh and he couldn’t be more engaging. The children absolutely loved it.
Our skipper, Nathan, gave us an amazing ride along the Thames and it honestly could not have gone better. We were all blown away by the experience and haven’t stopped talking about it. I can totally appreciate the great reviews that Thames Rockets gets – and you can add ours to that list. Top marks from us – what an incredible experience it was!
