Visiting the Orlando Cat Cafe in Florida

When we went to Florida in the summer we added a few things to our plans that weren’t traditional tourist activities. One of those was visiting the Orlando Cat Cafe, a real hidden gem and a highlight of our trip.

What is the Orlando Cat Cafe?

The Orlando Cat Cafe is a cat cafe in the Clermont area of Orlando, around a 20 minute drive from the Disney parks and the first Florida cat cafe. Itโ€™s attached to a lovely cafe, has parking right outside and is on a lovely tree lined road, making it lovely to visit from the moment you step out of your car.

Booking is recommended at the Orlando Cat Cafe and we booked an hour slot just a couple of days before. On arrival you check in at Munch Coffee, the cafe that adjoins the Orlando Cat Cafe. You can then buy any refreshments that you’d like to take into the cat cafe with you.

After checking in and buying refreshments you’re given a little safety briefing. Just letting you know that some cats are a bit ‘spicy’ and those ones wear a flower on their collar so you can be more careful around them. You’re also not allowed to pick up the cats – but they can climb on you if they want to.

When your session time arrives you go through an airlock style doorway into the cate cafe and can then enjoy time with the cats! When we visited there were about six or seven other people in the cafe with us and there was plenty of space – and plenty of cats – for all of us.

The Cat Cafe in Orlando have so many cats and kittens that you can get to know and a big part of the cafe is their work helping to re-home cats too. They work with SPCA Florida, aiming to find all the cats at the cat cafe the perfect new home for them.

We were told that they re-home around ten cats a week – and when we visited had re-homed over 2,000 cats since they first opened the cat cafe. All of the cats that we saw were available for adoption and many have now found their forever homes in the weeks since we visited.

During our time at the Orlando Cat Cafe we met around a dozen cats and kittens. Some were very young kittens and others were cats of around a year or two old. They had all come to SPCA Florida for different reasons but were all happy to be at the cafe, lazing around and enjoying the attention.

Little Man loved that one of the cats slept on his lap and he had a huge list of ones he’d love to adopt if we’d been able to. It’s just so easy to fall in love with the cats at the cafe and I was so impressed with the work that they do.

Our hour at the Orlando Cat Cafe flew by. We played with cats, spoke to them, stroked them and loved so many of them. Plus, the staff were so friendly and happy to talk to us about the cats, their history and the work that the Orlando Cat Cafe do to re-home cats.
