I love an easy traybake and this easy mincemeat crumble slice is a delicious, slice and serve mincemeat traybake that everyone will love over the festive season and way into the new year.
These old fashioned mincemeat crumble slices – or mincemeat crumble bars as they’re also known – are a great alternative to traditional mince pies. They are made with a shortcrust pastry base, spread with mincemeat and then topped with a delicious crumble mixture.
To make these mince pie crumble slices you can use homemade ingredients or shop bought ones. We always use ready made shortcrust pastry as it’s just so much quicker than making your own. But, we sometimes use homemade mincemeat and sometimes use shop bought. It depends how we feel!
How do you make mince pie crumble bars?
We use self raising flour for these mincemeat slices but you could also use plain flour or all purpose flour and a little baking powder or baking soda. We also use caster sugar but have also used golden caster sugar, traditional granulated sugar or soft light brown sugar. Like with any crumble topping recipe, this one is super easy to vary using whatever you have in the cupboards in your kitchen at home.
Can you vary this mincemeat slice recipe?
I know a lot of people like a crumble with oats in the topping so there is no reason why you can’t make these mincemeat slices with crumble topping that also has oats in it. To make a mincemeat crumble slice with oats just add a handful of oats to the crumble topping mixture. You might find that you have some remaining crumble mixture as you’ll have a little more with the added oats. Simply use this to make a little individual crumble at some point – it will keep well in an airtight container for a few days.
This is a great recipe to enjoy at Christmas and works well as part of a buffet spread or for a festive bake sale. But, I also make it often in the new year to use up leftover mincemeat. If you love mince pies then you’ll love this recipe too.
