Our Untamed Cat Food Review
*This is a paid post
We have had cats for pretty much our whole adult lives and, I admit, I have never thought a huge amount about what the cats eat. As long as they’re fed that’s all that matters, right? But recently I’ve been introduced to Untamed cat food and it has made me realise that the difference in cat food quality between products is vast – with the supermarket own brand food we’re used to getting often feeling much inferior to other options on the market!

What is Untamed cat food?
Untamed is a cat food brand designed to shake up the cat food market – giving cats exactly what they need. Untamed uses human-grade ingredients with no sugars or greens added – as cats weren’t made to eat vegetables! It features whole, hand-shredded meats and wild fish with no freezing or defrosting needed. In short, it’s great quality food for cats.

Instead of brown mush or a mystery mess, Untamed is just succulent, flake-apart cuts prepared for peak nutrition and cooked low and slow to lock in all the vitamins. In Untamed’s words ‘Because your cat deserves better than supply-chain scraps.’

The Untamed cat food range
Untamed have a great range of food that is available in Gravy, Jelly, Pâté or Broth options. Each of the types of food comes in a range of fish or meat flavours, giving your cats so many different meals to choose from.

We’ve been trying out Untamed for a couple of weeks and have mainly used the jelly and gravy Untamed tins with Fred & George, with a few broth meals thrown in for good measure. But, the pate is also a great option for older cats or any that need food to be gentle on their teeth and gums.

Trying Untamed cat food with Fred and George
Like with any diet change, Untamed recommend going slowly and adding just a little Untamed to your cats’ old food, and building it up day by day. Each trial box comes with a transitioning guide with full info. However, from experience we know that Fred and George are not very fussy with food and don’t have sensitive stomachs so we made the switch to Untamed slightly quicker – by replacing one meal a day with Untamed to start with before moving to both their meals being Untamed.

Over the years we have used many different types of cat food but it mainly it seems to consist of chunks of meat in either jelly or gravy, where it all looks the same. In any of these options, the meat is indistinguishable. If the label didn’t say fish or chicken you really wouldn’t know what it was – it all looks the same and all has that same cat food smell.

But, Untamed is different. As soon as we opened the first cat food tin we were surprised – in a really good way. You could tell instantly what the meat was that you were giving your pets – and the chicken looked very different to the salmon, for example. Plus, it didn’t have a strong cat food smell. It smelt meaty but not dissimilar to preparing our own dinner. The meals definitely looked more appetising than what Fred and George were used to eating – at least from a human perspective!

The Untamed cat food is also a smaller portion size compared to what Fred and George are used to. They tend to have 100g pouches of food at each meal whereas Untamed tins are a 75g portion. I was a little concerned that this may not fill Fred and George up – but I needn’t have worried.

The cats usually eat their meals really quickly, appearing ravenous all the time. Don’t worry – we feed them enough, they just always act starving! So, their usual cat food will disappear within a couple of minutes. However, with Untamed they took their time over the food more. I think the food needed chewing more than they were used to and so it took them longer to eat which slowed them down, helping them enjoy the eating process more!

Although the portion sizes were smaller with Untamed, the cats never seemed to still be hungry when they finished eating and, if anything, they seemed more satisfied – going straight off for a nap rather than hanging around to see if there was anything else for them to eat.

Although Fred and George are not very fussy when it comes to food, they do seem to really enjoy Untamed. We’ve been feeding them Untamed meals for a couple of weeks now and they have eaten all of the different varieties with no complaints at all. Untamed has definitely been a hit in our house.

Overall thoughts of Untamed
We’ve really enjoyed using the Untamed range with the cats – and I think Fred & George have appreciated it too! The meals aren’t aimed at a specific diet or age of cat – they’re suitable for all cats – and come in a great range of flavours that the cats seem to enjoy with gusto.

We’ve still been feeding the cats twice a day and each of their meals has been well received. We would definitely be happy to keep feeding Fred & George Untamed going forward. Plus, we’ve also discovered that Untamed also have a range of kibble dry cat food and cat treats so we’ll be looking out for those to try with Fred and George in the future.

Untamed cat food is a little more expensive than the food we have been using but that’s to be expected with such a high quality product, including just the best ingredients. Like with anything, you get what you pay for and if you want your cats to have a really nutritious and healthy diet then Untamed is the way to go.
