Last weekend we were invited to stay at the Legoland Woodland Village, the newest option when it comes to enjoying a short break at Legoland.
What is the Woodland Village?
The Woodland Village is the new way to stay at the Legoland Windsor Resort, billed as the place where nature, and imaginations, never sleep! It’s full of woodland retreats where families can make memories to last a lifetime.
The Woodland Village aims to help people reconnect with nature through a woodland escape, with campfire inspired dining and the chance for the children to become Junior Legoland Rangers as they explore, learn, and play alongside the Lego birds, butterflies, badgers, and bees.
Where is the Woodland Village?
The Woodland Village is situated really close to the main Legoland park gates, with its own car park – and free parking for everyone who stays at the Woodland Village too.
Check in is from 4pm but you get a text message when your room is ready which can often be earlier – ours was ready from around 1:30pm. This means you can enjoy all that Legoland has to offer before heading to the Woodland Village to relax for the evening.
Checking in to the Woodland Village
Check in can all be done online for the Woodland Village – although you can do it when you arrive too. You simply add guest details and your car registration and then head to The Clubhouse reception when you arrive to collect your door cards.
We loved how easy this was. We just had to put our booking reference into a machine and the key cards were created for us. And they were wooden too! The theming is absolutely fantastic from the moment you arrive at the Woodland Village. Reception is full of wood, trees and so much Lego to play with – it’s a fantastic introduction to the Woodland Village!
The Woodland Village
Armed with our key cards and our lodge number, we headed off into the Woodland Village to find our lodge and explore. The first thing we noticed was how green and well spaced out everything is. It’s such a happy place to walk around.
The whole site is laid out in cul-de-sacs of accomodation, with lodges situated around a central green that has play equipment on it. This is fantastic for letting the kids play whilst you watch them from your terrace – and also means that the play equipment will never be too busy as there’s just so many different play structures for children to enjoy.
Each area also had Lego models guarding the lodge numbers! There were rangers, minifigures and animals that the children loved looking at and taking photos with. There are so many to see all around the Woodland Village, creating a lovely nature trail that even the adults are bound to enjoy.
The Woodland Village Lodges
Our lodge was situated near the furthest point of the Woodland Village but, the site is circular. So even though we’d walked quite far, a little further on we came back out near the Clubhouse. This is a great design and means that all the lodges are well located and none of them are very far from the amenities and entertainment.
For our stay we were in a Standard Woodland Lodge which has a main bedroom, a bunk bed room and a shower room as well as a little terrace with furniture outside.
There’s plenty of storage throughout the lodge and the bunk bed room sleeps up to three, with an extra pull out trundle bed, making it great for larger families. There’s also plenty of towels, tea and coffee making facilities and free wifi.
The children loved that there was Lego to play with in their room as well as a pretty cool light show when we closed the curtains. But, the icing on the cake was the Junior Legoland Ranger trail they had to complete to unlock a safe in their room – full of lovely gifts and treasures for them!
They also really enjoyed the bonus AR experience where, through the Legoland app, plants and animals came alive all around our lodge through augmented reality. It’s great fun, super cool, and another lovely feature of a break at the Legoland Woodland Village.
The room is again so well themed, with woodland bedding, woodland murals on the walls and Lego models throughout. There are also TVs in the main bedroom and children’s room where you can find out information but also watch Lego movies! What a treat.
The lodge was a great size, had really comfortable bedding and we all slept really well. We did find it a bit chilly in the morning though – there are radiators but we couldn’t seem to turn them on. Maybe because it’s the summer?
As well as the standard lodges, the Woodland Village also has Premium Woodland Lodges with an additional lounge area, as they have an upstairs mezzanine bedroom, freeing up downstairs space.
There are also Woodland Barrels that you can stay in. These are the cheapest option in the Woodland Village, sleep four and have a dining area as well as seating outside but instead of having their own bathroom there is a lovely shower block right next to them that you can use whenever you like.
Dining at The Clubhouse
We had dinner at The Clubhouse which is a restaurant, bar and entertainment venue all in one. It’s a real hub of activity and from the moment you enter you are greeted with children playing with Lego, characters to meet and food and drink being enjoyed.
The restaurant was very busy when we arrived. As most guests have young children a dinner time of 6pm ish is definitely popular – and the restaurant had quietened down noticeably by the time we left. Service was pretty slow but we put this down to the restaurant being new and the staff being new and inexperienced as well as it being a busy Saturday night.
The children ordered from the kids menu as, although they’re now 11 and 12, they don’t have the biggest of appetites. LP had spaghetti bolognese and Little Man had sausage and mash along with a garlic stick starter for each of them. However, the staff asked if it was ok for the starters to come out at the same time as the mains which was fine for us.
Their meals were fine but the spag bol was quite dry and the sausages and mash could have done with some gravy or something as it was quite a dry meal too. They did really enjoy their mocktails though – The Clubhouse has a fantastic cocktail and mocktail menu.
For our meals, Dave and I chose the steak and ribs. The ribs could have done with being hotter but Dave’s steak was lovely. We also had a focaccia to share which turned out to be like a cheese and caramelised onion pizza. This again came at the same time as our mains and was a nice side dish.
For our desserts the children had watermelon and a mango mousse from the children’s menu and me and Dave had a s’mores cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. The sticky toffee pudding really wasn’t great – it was hard and cold – but the others really enjoyed their desserts.
We also had breakfast in the Clubhouse – breakfast is included in all stays at the Woodland Village. There are two choices for breakfast for both adults and children – pancakes with fruit and bacon or a full english breakfast with scrambled or fried eggs.
The children both had pancakes – and I did too – but Dave chose the full english. The breakfast service was wonderful – super speedy, lots of chat and engagement. It was a lovely meal experience.
The children and I really enjoyed our pancakes – even though we thought we weren’t going to like bacon with them, we actually really enjoyed it. And Dave loved his breakfast too.
We were also able to help ourselves to tea, coffee and juice plus a continental buffet but this was very sparse compared to hotel buffets we are used to. There was just a variety of cereal, apples, croissants and pain au chocolat.
The pain au chocolat could have done with being filled up more regularly and a wider selection of fruit would have been appreciated. But the overall breakfast was a really nice way to start the day.
Entertainment at the Woodland Village
Every evening, and often through the day too, there are Lego characters and friendly rangers who appear in the Clubhouse to take photos with the children, play games and generally entertain them whilst their parents have a drink and relax. There are also a lot of places to build with Lego throughout the Clubhouse.
As well as the entertainment, there’s also a fantastic play area right outside the Clubhouse where children can play whilst parents relax. There’s a huge play structure, trim trail, roundabout and trampoline which LP and Little Man loved playing on during our time at the Woodland Village.
We also loved walking around the Woodland Village, spotting the Lego animals and rangers everywhere. The whole area is still being developed and there are so many trees that have been planted which will be beautiful once they start to grow and mature, giving it much more of a woodland feel.
You also get a round of Legoland Adventure Golf included in your stay at the Woodland Village which you can book at any time whilst you’re there. We played golf before we headed home but it could be something you do when you arrive or after dinner in the evening.
The adventure golf is a fantastic activity with four different courses to choose from. LP and Little Man loved the competitiveness of adventure golf and really appreciated being given a scorecard to keep track of our points as made our way around the courses!
Staying at the Woodland Village
We loved our stay at the Woodland Village and it definitely makes a day at Legoland into more of an event, staying over and extending the fun. When you book to stay at the Woodland Village you get free parking, free breakfast and a free round of adventure golf. It also includes one day of Legoland tickets as standard but can be upgraded to two days at a reduced cost.
The Woodland Village is a great way to extend your time at Legoland. Find out more and book your next break over on the Legoland website. See a Reel of our stay over on Instagram here.
