World Book Day {The Ordinary Moments}

Welcome back to another week of the Ordinary Moments. If you haven’t joined in before this is a weekly linky that launches every Sunday morning and is open until midnight on the following Saturday. It’s a linky that celebrates any ordinary moments in your life – or the not so ordinary some weeks too. Basically – anything goes. I’ll be sharing and commenting on the posts that are linked up during the week and there’s a badge at the bottom of the post if you’d like to add it to yours too.

World Book Day {The Ordinary Moments}

When we had the snow days earlier this month, World Book Day at the children’s school was cancelled – as the school was closed. But, much to the children’s delight, it got rescheduled and the children were able to wear their planned costumes on Friday.

I wrote a few years ago about how sad it was that children wore princess and superhero costumes to World Book Day, that it missed the point. But, I wrote that as a pretty naive, new school parent. Now, years later, I know that there are so many books, with so many different characters and as long as World Book Day helps to inspire children to read does it really matter what they dress up as?

So, LP went as her favourite Princess – Ariel. She loves the Little Mermaid book of the Disney movie and loves it even more that her hair matches Ariel’s. I attempted french plaits in her hair and the finished result wasn’t too bad – I definitely need more practice though.

Little Man wore the gingerbread man costume that he wore for World Book Day last year. He’s incredibly attached to it so I was pleased that it still fit – I have no idea how he’ll cope when he outgrows it!

The children literally bounced out of bed for World Book Day and were in the best mood when I dropped them off at school. They love anything different to their normal routine and having something like World Book Day to focus on makes them so excited – especially when they had been waiting weeks for it.

I hope Little Man and LP love dressing up for years to come. It makes them so happy and it’s so much fun for them. Plus, it’s another thing they can do together – and everything is better when they’re together.

  1. Ariel definitely suits your girl with her long red locks, beautiful that she chose Ariel. Thankfully the snow here never reached the point of the school being closed so our WBD went as planned #OrdinaryMoments

  2. They are such fab costumes. I hoped this two for mine, but the boys aren’t so keen for world Book day, but I still get Halloween which is fab. It’s such a lovely day to celebrate. I do love books. They look so happy x

  3. Ah lovely. Little Mermaid fan here too, although the original tale by Hans Christian Anderson is a bit gruesome to say the least. Perhaps its better they don’t so much about that version yet. I don’t think World Book Day was a ‘thing’ when I was at school so its great to see it making so many children happy.
