Snow Days {The Ordinary Moments}

Welcome back to another week of the Ordinary Moments. If you haven’t joined in before this is a weekly linky that launches every Sunday morning and is open until midnight on the following Saturday. It’s a linky that celebrates any ordinary moments in your life – or the not so ordinary some weeks too. Basically – anything goes. I’ll be sharing and commenting on the posts that are linked up during the week and there’s a badge at the bottom of the post if you’d like to add it to yours too.

Snow Days {The Ordinary Moments}

LP and Little Man haven’t really experienced proper snow in their living memory. The last time we had decent snow was when I was pregnant with Little Man and LP was a toddler. But this week the snow came thick and fast and by Wednesday school was shut, the white stuff was everywhere and we were making the most of a slower pace, pyjamas, blankets and Disney movies.

By Friday I felt bad as the children hadn’t actually been out in the snow – but they weren’t too bothered and in the end they were happy going in the garden for half an hour – until they got cold and came back in again!

But this week has also been plagued with boiler problems, the heating cutting out and no hot water. Hopefully the coldest weather is now behind us and we can carry on with a lovely warm home.

The children, though, were none the wiser. They watched TV, played Lego, had picnic lunches and relaxed a lot. After having so many busy weekends I think this time out was just what they needed. They loved having time off school, watching the snow fall and just being able to play and do what they wanted for a few days.

It was an easy week of lazy parenting – TV and toys mainly – as I had work to do. But it was a week that we all got through happily. I think sometimes you just need a break from routine and the snow days gave the children that. We didn’t go sledding or make snowmen – and the grass in the garden still hasn’t set enough for the children to go on – but they had fun and they loved being at home. I think we really need to just stay home more often.

  1. I’m in full agreement – sometimes you just need those breaks! Ours was the opposite, j was rabid with excitement and couldn’t wait to get outside in it – even waking me up at 5:30 on Thursday morning to declare it was a snow day! Sorry I’ve been a little absent – although you know why x

  2. That’s true, for a lot of people it gave some the chance to properly slow down, I didn’t really go anywhere spent all of it at home.
    My son was the same with the snow, he’s never really seen it before and we were out for all of 10 minutes. ??‍♀️??‍♀️

  3. I honestly cant believe how much snow there has been!! It is nice to have a little snow day now and again…although no more for a while now please! #ordinarymoments

  4. I have loved the snow this week, so beautiful and fun! It sounds like you lot had a good time of it too. Sorry to hear that your boiler was playing up – how annoying! Hoping for Springtime soon x

  5. We also didn’t go sledging Donna so you are not alone. There was one attempt of a snowman byt Sophia but the snow was too fluffy to stick on the first day. Lovely photos x
