Weaning has Begun!

Little Man is 6 months on 10th November and we had said that we’d wait until then to start Baby Led Weaning but over the last few days LM has been trying to take food from us and gnawing on everything. He was also very happy to sit in his Bumbo. Add to that the fact that he has been teething a lot of the last week and I thought it might be nice for him to chew on a cucumber stick – soothing for his gums and starting our BLW journey at the same time.

So Little Man sat in his Bumbo with us at the table during lunch and worked his way through three cucumber sticks. He loved it! His co-ordination is great – a lot better than LP’s had been at the same age, but then again Little Man is so much sturdier and robust. He’s a very solid baby whereas his sister has always been small and petite.

This is now the start of our second Baby Led Weaning journey and I am so excited by the prospect. I cannot wait for Little Man to try new foods, to do his own ‘new taste face’ that I remember so clearly from LP and to work out his own likes and dislikes for different flavours. The extra mess is definitely the downside but weaning will be messy at some point so why not be messy from the start – I am truly embracing the mess!

I’ve just bought, from Poundland, a couple of ‘messy floor mats’ that are wipe clean for under his highchair and have got a stockpile of bibs – although from memory nappy wearing is usual weaning attire! Another must is a bulk supply o flannels ready for mammoth clean up after each meal.

Weaning has begun. My baby really isn’t a little baby anymore!

  1. I’ve always breastfed on demand so used to having night feeds – Little Man hasn’t started sleeping through until very recently – He’s a year next week! x
