We love flapjacks in our house and when I found a tin of black treacle in the kitchen recently I thought I’d try making Treacle Flapjacks with it, basically just substituting the golden syrup I usually use for treacle! And it worked really well.

How do you make a Black Treacle Flapjack?
Flapjacks are one of the easiest things you can bake. They only take around half an hour from gathering the ingredients to leaving the flapjacks to cool and they are always such a hit with the kids.
To make this old fashioned Black Treacle Flapjack recipe you simply need rolled oats, unsalted butter or margarine, light brown sugar and black treacle. The recipe could not be easier – melting the butter, sugar and treacle together before stirring the oats in and baking for around twenty minutes.
This recipe is so easy to vary to use what you have in the cupboard – which is how we realised margarine works just as well as butter! You can also use different types of sugar and even add extras like dried fruit if you want to for some extra texture and goodness.
This easy black treacle flapjack is really moreish but, if you cook it for too long it does go very hard and it’s best eaten the same day you make it although it will last for a few days in an airtight container. But, it does get harder, like with all bakes, the longer you leave it for.
This is the first of many black treacle recipes that we’ll be sharing. It’s such a versatile ingredient and so easy to bake with.
