Although we like the children to eat the same meals as us there are times where we eat at different times to them or where out dinner isn’t suitable and I like to have something quick but as healthy as possible at hand.

I often run out of ideas of what to cook for the children when they eat separately to us and it’s great to have something quick that they can have for any meal, from breakfast through to dinner with healthy snacks in between.

Marks and Spencer gave us a selection of their new children’s Taste Buds range to try with LP and LM to see if they passed the taste test! Up until now we haven’t really given the kids any ready meals. I didn’t know what they would think of them.

They haven’t had any children’s ready made food at all, Annabel Karmel etc. The range is great with many favourites in it like fish pie, cottage pie and many other familiar meals. I loved the look of the pasta dishes as there was so much variety.

What meals are in the Marks and Spencer Taste Buds Children’s Meals Range?

We were given the Melt in the Middle Cod Fishcake & Vegetables, Fruity Chicken with Couscous and Cowboy BBQ Chicken & Rice kids meals. I was impressed that all three could be cooked in the oven or microwave. They all were all a lovely, balanced meal.

The Melt in the Middle Cod Fishcake was a really good size for a child’s dinner. It looked very similar to ones that Dave and I buy for ourselves! The addition of carrot and swede mash was lovely. You can see that M&S have put as many vegetables as they can in the meal whilst keeping it bright and appealing to children.

I wasn’t sure how the children would feel about the Fruity Chicken with Couscous. We don’t eat couscous but Little Man ate it with as much enthusiasm as he eats anything else. He loves his food! He also enjoyed the Cowboy BBQ Chicken & Rice and I was really surprised with the amount of chicken in it.

What were our overall thoughts of the Marks and Spencer Taste Buds Children’s Meals Range?

Overall the range seems like a really healthy alternative to other quick and easy food options with low salt content. Prices vary from £2.29 to £2.49 but are on a par with children’s meals from other brands and a great choice for busy parents.

What are the Marks and Spencer Taste Meals Range like?

We were also given a meal from the new M&S Taste range to enjoy for Dave and I. The Taste range has Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese dishes and all look incredibly authentic. Our dishes were from Mexico, in celebration of our Mexican honeymoon!

Our side dish was the Mini Taco Selection that had three different flavour tacos. There was one beef, one chicken and one vegetarian. All three had great flavours and made a lovely side dish to share or a starter for one. Our main was the Steak Chilli with Coriander Rice. We both loved the addition of coriander to the rice. We tend to have plain rice at home so this was lovely.

The amount of steak was a lot less than pictured on the box but it was still a filling meal for Dave and I. The flavours were lovely. The main was £6.50 for a pack big enough for two and I think that is great value as a treat. Dave and I will be trying other meals from the range very soon and it’s great to see M&S cater for everyone for family meals.

Marks and Spencer also have a fantastic range of desserts and sweets as well as cheese and biscuits, barbecue food and Christmas food to order too. They tick every box for every occasion!

  1. I have only just found the Taste buds ready meals for children in your store in Kingsley Village near Truro.I am 92 years young and fine that the normal range of Adult ready meals, whilst are very good, are far too big for me. As you get older you do not need the same amount of food. I have had a couple of children’s meals, but, wonder if would it be good idea to produce some Adult meals with smaller proportions for older people, this would also save a great deal of wasted food.
    A Win Win situation.
I would appreciate your views about this matter.
    Happy Christmas.
