Reading in Bed {The Ordinary Moments}

I didn’t think LP would be growing up this quickly. For months now she has read books in bed by the glow of her nightlight and when she’s done she’ll push them under her pillow and go to sleep but this reading has gone up a level since the start of the school holidays.

LP asked if she could leave her bedside light on and read for a while. I said she could as long as she turned the light off when she was tired and went to sleep. Now each night she sits in bed, reading books and turns the light off without fail as soon as she is sleepy – she’s usually asleep within half an hour of going to bed.I remember reading in bed when I was a child. I would lay in bed and read a chapter or two of my book before my parents would come and tell me it was time for bed but I was about ten – not three.

I had no idea LP would grow so quickly, that we would be at these stages already and how proud of her they would make me. The fact that she wants to read books, that she turns her light off without us having to go back upstairs and that she loves the little bit of freedom that being allowed to read in bed gives her.

LP is growing up so quickly but I love every new stage that we reach. The age that she is at is the best age yet and I know that will continue to be the case. My nearly four year old LP is a pretty amazing little person – who already loves to read in bed.

  1. This is what Charlie does. He often wakes up with 5 or 6 books at the bottom of the bed but always turns his light off after he’s finished. It’s so lovely! I hope he keeps his enthusiasm for reading x

  2. I remember reading in bed and being allowed half an hour after my parents had sent us up. There’s something really nice about getting a ‘proper’ book and having a read through as opposed to on an electronic device x

  3. Oh bless her, that’s lovely. Sounds like she really enjoys that bit of independence of deciding when she’s finished reading and it’s time to go to sleep. She does sound so grown up! #OrdinaryMoments

  4. Aww, I love the photo, she looks so sweet and so grown up at the same time. O likes to “read” in a morning and will bring through several books, one at a time, into our bed. xxx
