We always have a festive day out before Christmas as a family and this year we decided to spend the day at Battersea Power Station, somewhere we had been planning to visit ever since it was reopened. As part of our visit we booked ice skating at Glide at Battersea Power Station to finish our day.

What is Glide Battersea?
Glide at Battersea Power Station is the annual Battersea Power Station ice rink. Running from the start of November until the start of January, it’s a popular pop up attraction that is perfect for the festive season.
How much is Glide Battersea Power Station?
Ice skating at Glide at Battersea Power Station costs from £16.00 for adults and £10.50 for children. Plus there are family ticket from £48 too. Ice skate hire is included in the price of your ticket and penguin skate aids can be hired for £6 each.

Prices for ice skating vary depending on the day and time that you visit, with peak times obviously being a higher cost but we found the prices to be reasonable compared to other festive ice skating rinks we have visited.
Ice skating at Battersea Power Station
When ice skating at Battersea Power Station you turn up at your allotted booking time or just a few minutes before. Tickets are then scanned outside the rink before you’re let into the main building to get your skates.
The skate exchange is well managed, with your shoes being taken and swapped for ice skates in your chosen size. They have skates for all sizes – even skates that fit over shoes for the smallest of skaters!

Bags are not allowed to be taken onto the ice and there is a cloakroom for bags and coats in the skate exchange area. This costs £2 for small items and £4 for larger items but we didn’t make use of the cloakroom and just visited Glide at Battersea Power Station without any bags.
As soon as the ice skating session started we got onto the ice. The ice is refreshed after each session, making it nice and smooth for the next session which was lovely and made for a really nice skating experience.

The Glide rink at Battersea Power Station is one of the biggest we’ve been to in the UK, with a main rink that has a beautiful Christmas tree in the centre and a little offshoot lane decorated with trees and lights.

This little extra lane was a bit of a gimmick. It got very congested and the ice wasn’t in as good condition as the ice on the main rink. We went round it once but found the main ice rink to be a more enjoyable skating experience.

Ice skating sessions at Glide at Battersea Power Station last 45 minutes which doesn’t sound like very long but is really plenty of time – ice skating is exhausting! There’s plenty of space around the edges of the rink for spectators to stand and watch and the only thing that would have made the experience better would have been more music.
There seemed to be music playing from a couple of small speakers dotted around but it wasn’t enough to create a nice, festive atmosphere. Aside from that, we had a great time skating at Glide at Battersea Power Station and would happily visit again in the future.

Refreshments at Glide at Battersea Power Station
At Glide at Battersea Power Station there is an ice-side Glasshouse Bar which is perfect for getting something to eat or drink before or after your skate. Plus, Battersea Power Station has so many options where food and drink is concerned.
There’s also a little festive market outside the Glide Ice Rink, before you enter Battersea Power Station, that has drinks and snack outlets, sideshow stalls and funfair rides.

Making a full day of ice skating at Battersea Power Station
As well as the little winter village outside Battersea Power Station there is also so much to do to make your ice skating trip into a full day out at Battersea Power Station.

There are plenty of shops to explore – including the only Transformers shop in the world – plus Birdies crazy golf, the Cinema in the Arches and Lift 109, the Battersea Power Station Chimney Lift.
