Ever since we visited the Sky Garden in London I have wanted to explore more rooftop gardens across the city. I had no idea that there were so many rooftop gardens in London and actually wrote about them here. However, what’s better than a rooftop garden to visit? A free rooftop garden! So I’m sharing the best free roof gardens in London.

I thought I’d put together all the free rooftop gardens in London for you to explore and enjoy the rooftop views, with no extra rooftop garden costs involved. You can reserve your spot – or just turn up, depending on the rules for each free roof gardens in London venue – and enjoy the city garden view without any payment, unless you feel like buying food and drinks whilst you’re there.

Free Rooftop Gardens London
Crossrail Place Roof Garden
Free to visit and open daily to the public, Crossrail Place Roof Garden is one of London’s largest roof gardens. Admire the exotic plants, relax on one of the many benches or enjoy a show in the amphitheatre.
Where: Crossrail Pl, London E14 5AB
When: Open daily, no ticket needed.

Sky Garden London
The Sky Gardens are London’s highest public garden with a viewing gallery on the 43rd floor of the Walkie Talkie building with panoramic views over London. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the indoor garden gives fantastic views of the iconic London skyline. Enjoy the lush landscaped gardens before making your way to the observation decks and open-air terrace.

When: Open daily. Sky Garden free tickets are released every Monday morning (excluding bank holidays) three weeks in advance for the whole week.

The Garden at 120 Rooftop
The City of London’s largest public rooftop space which is free to visit and with no booking required (unless you are a group of 12 or more). 15 storeys up, The Garden at 120 gives fantastic 360-degree views of the City and greater London.

When: Open daily. The Garden at 120 tickets not required.
Culpeper Roof Garden
This rooftop woodland garden has been designed and planted with a perennial woodland focus, so it will evolve and develop over the years to come. Your seat is nestled amongst birch and hazel trees and there are berries and grasses, calendula, mints, wild strawberries and woodruff. All with an unmissable view of the city skyline.

When: Open daily during Culpeper opening hours. Garden seating available on a first come, first serve basis for those enjoying food and/or drinks.

Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden
Nestled on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Roof Garden is home to over 200 wild native plants, a luscious lawn, views across London and the Roof Garden Bar & Kitchen. It’s a peaceful space that has become a much-loved feature of the Southbank Centre.

When: Open Thursday to Sunday. Free to visit.
Coq d’Argent
Coq d’Argent is the City’s original rooftop destination, combining classic French cuisine with an oasis of gardens, sweeping terraces and skyline views over the Bank of England.

When: Open daily. Accessible to those dining at Coq d’Argent.

Skylark Roof Garden
London’s highest and largest rooftop terrace overlooking Notting Hill and Hyde Park.
Where: 10th Floor, 4 Kingdom St, Paddington, London W2 6BD
When: Open throughout the weekend for anyone eating or drinking at Skylark. Booking is highly recommended but walk ins are welcome.

One New Change Roof Terrace
Home to Madison London, relax and take in views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the London skyline from the breathtaking roof terrace at One New Change. Open to all and free to enter with no tickets needed.
