Virtual Fitness Challenges from Conquest Challenges

*This is a paid post

A few months ago I started doing Couch to 5k to improve my fitness and have been looking for other ways to exercise regularly and inspire me to get active more often or run for longer. I found so many challenges across the country – 5k or 10k runs, half marathons and marathons as well as treks to explore different parts of the country. But I wanted something I could do in my own time, around my existing commitments, and discovered Conquest Challenges.

What is Conquest Challenges?

Conquest Challenges create virtual fitness challenges for all abilities, ages and experience levels. The challenges can be completed by running, walking, cycling, swimming or a combination of all the activities, going at your own pace and at times that work for you.

What Conquest Challenges are available?

Conquest Challenges have a variety of different virtual challenges that have varying lengths and you can pick a deadline for completing the challenge – making sure it’s doable but also still a challenge around work, school runs and other aspects of day to day life.

The virtual challenges take you on journeys through either real places around the world or through virtual worlds, teaching you more about the places and the things you see throughout the journey. This adds so much more depth to the challenge than simply giving you a distance to complete.

You can complete the 192km of the Jurassic Coast, follow the 135km of Hadrian’s Wall or, like me, start smaller and follow the 31.2km Inca Trail. Or you can immerse yourself in The Haven Chronicles, a 120km story, or a 3km festive Santa’s Lapland Adventure. As you can see, there are themes and distances for everyone, with new challenges being developed all the time.

When you sign up for a Conquest Challenges virtual challenge you can either just have the virtual challenge or you can choose to have a physical medal at the end – or a mini medal! This makes Conquest Challenges so much more of an experience and lovely to showcase your achievements too.

How do Conquest Challenges work?

When you sign up to a Conquest Challenges you pick not just the challenge that you want to complete but also the duration of the challenge and how you want to complete it. I signed up to the Inca Trail and knew I just wanted to walk and run it so just selected those options. The aim was to get the kids to join in as much as possible, completing the challenge as a family to kick start the summer holidays.

I was impressed that, as well as being able to manually add activities to the challenge, you can also link things like Strava, Garmin, Fitbit etc so that Conquest Challenges automatically adds your activities as you complete them. This means that once you sign up to a Conquest Challenges virtual challenge you don’t need to do anything – just exercise as normal and see how far you get!

I loved that throughout our Conquest Challenges trail, we were sent emails regularly to let us know our progress along with virtual postcards of the route, the things we would see along it and facts about the area. This is something the children especially loved, seeing how far we had gone but also learning about it all too.

Conquest Challenges also sent emails every time we completed the next 25% of the challenge as they plant a tree four times throughout each challenge in various tree restoration projects across the world. This is a lovely extra incentive when doing Conquest Challenges and I loved getting the emails telling me each time a tree was planted in my name.

Taking part in Conquest Challenges

When we signed up for the Inca Trail I didn’t know how long it would take us to complete as it was the summer holidays and we were going to be going away – hence choosing one of the shortest challenges.

However, the walks I did with the children, and my Couch to 5k runs all really added up and I ended up completing the challenge in a week. The children loved knowing that our local walks and days out helped complete the challenge and they ended up being as invested in it as I was.

Finishing a Conquest Challenges

When you finish one of the Conquest Challenges you get an email celebrating your success – and it also includes certificates that you can share all over social media to let everyone know you completed an exciting challenge.

You are also prompted to claim your medal – if you selected to have one when you signed up. You simply add your address and a medal is sent through the post.

When we signed up for the Inca Trail challenge we chose the option to get a medal when we completed it along with a mini medal – like a keyring. They arrived swiftly after completing the challenge and are so well made and great to look at. The medal is now in pride of place at home and the children have claimed the mini medal – a great option when taking on the challenge with the kids!

Completing the challenge felt so good – and the kids were so proud of themselves for helping too. We’re trying to decide which challenge to do next as the children want to aim high and go for the furthest challenge but I would rather pace ourselves and work up to the furthest one. The Giant’s Causeway is looking likely!

Having a Conquest Challenges virtual challenge to complete was such a great experience. It made us more active, gave us something to aim for and we all loved the medal arriving through the post. If you’re looking for a way to get more active, take on a challenge or simply do something different, Conquest Challenges is well worth signing up for – and I have a discount for you too!
