An hour at Willen Lake Milton Keynes

When we went to Leicester in February half term we needed somewhere to stop off to break up the long drive home. We chose Willen Lake after seeing photos of it on Instagram and it ended up being the perfect place to stretch our legs.

What is Willen Lake?

Willen Lake in Buckinghamshire is billed as Milton Keynes’ most popular park. And we can see why! Willen Lake is managed by The Parks Trust, who have made it a really beautiful place to spend time.

Willen Lakes offer a wide range of activities both on and off the water. There’s a fantastic play area, the Treetop Extreme high ropes course, an observation wheel, an outdoor splash park in the warmer months and watersports including kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and the opportunity to hire a pedalo!

Willen Lake Parking

When we arrived at Willen Lake we were blown away by the amount of parking and how well looked after the car parking areas were. We don’t have many outdoor spaces near us that are immedietly so welcoming and so this was such a nice surprise.

There are four different car parks depending on what part of the park you need to be near and parking costs from £1.50 for an hour. It seemed like such a popular spot for dog walkers and has lovely, accesible paths right from the car parks that are perfect for pushchairs and wheelchairs too.

Our time at Willen Lake

We only had an hour at Willen Lake so as much as we would have loved to walk around the lake it just wasn’t on the plan. So instead, we headed for the play area – and were so impressed!

The play area at Willen Lake is made of lots of little play areas with paths inbetween, all situated around a little hill. There are different areas for different ages and abilities and the children loved the swings, climbing structures, trim trail and slide.

LP and Little Man loved Willen Lake and have asked when we can go back to walk around the lake and go on the aqua park! They were also disappointed that the observation wheel wasn’t running during our trip – it was winter so to be expeted really.

Willen Lake facilities

As well as an amazing play area and so many activities on offer, Willen Lake also has regular special events, plenty of toilets and the Willen Lake Bar and Kitchen where you can grab a drink or lunch.

After our trip to Willen Lake we went to the centre:mk shopping centre to pick up lunch and wander round the shops. It’s not very far away and has one of the biggest Primark stores that we have ever been in. What a great shopping centre!

And, before we knew it, we were back on the road and on the way home. Willen Lake is well worth a visit if you’re anywhere near by. It’s the kind of place we would happily drive an hour to as it has such great facilities and so much to do.

You can find out more about Willen Lake over on their website and you can see the Willen Lake map here. For reference, the address is: V10 Brickhill Street, Milton Keynes MK15 0DS
