Every Christmas I write about festive events locally and I had been meaning to visit Hatchlands Park for their Snowdog trail since it first opened in November. However, life got in the way and we finally made the visit in the lull between Christmas and New Year – and we’re so glad we found the time to go!

The Snowdogs at Hatchlands Park

The Snowdogs at Hatchlands Park is a free trail inspired by the sequel to the popular Raymond Briggs’ picture book The Snowman. The trail features ten uniquely decorated sculptures of The Snowdog throughout the grounds of Hatchlands Park National Trust, created by Wild in Art.

Also along the trail there are festive family activities to participate in, making the trail that much longer, and even more exciting! The activities will appeal to younger visitors with things like hook a bone, throw the collar on the tail and even a classic bean bag toss.

We really enjoyed exploring the trail. It’s a circular route around the grounds, taking in all the main parts of Hatchlands Park and giving great views of the house too. It took us about an hour to cover the whole route, whilst taking part in the activities and reading all the info about each of the snow dog statues too.

The Hatchlands Park House

Before we went home we visited the Hatchlands Park house to see it decorated for Christmas. Open just 12-3pm throughout December, we were lucky that we’d timed our visit right and got to see the house in all its festive glory!

There are so many beautifully decorated trees, festive fireplaces, paper chains and Christmas lights throughout the house – along with little Snowdogs to spot in each room. It was lovely.

We had such a nice time at Hatchlands Park and the Snowdogs made an always lovely day out that much more festive and exciting.
