Is it just me or is this year flying by? I can’t believe we are nearly in May already! April has gone by so quickly and it really has been a lovely month although I have been poorly for a chunk of it. And that is exactly why I write this post each month – so I don’t dwell on being poorly and instead look at all the lovely positive parts of the month.

So here’s everything we’ve liked and loved since my last update:

Laying flowers

We went away for the Easter holidays to Somerset and Wiltshire and on the way I was able to visit where my Dad used to live and where he and his wife are now interred. We hadn’t visited since the interment in November and this month marked a year since he died so it was nice to go back, tidy up the grave and leave some flowers for them.

Our holiday

Our time in Somerset and Wiltshire was lovely. We went away with our friends who we have been holidaying with for years and it was so lovely to catch up, relax and go on some new days out too.

Over the course of the week we went to Longleat, Bath, Stonehenge, Haynes Motor Museum and a couple of new National Trust places – Stourhead and Prior Park. It was such a great week.

Playing tourists in London

We finished the Easter holidays with an overnight trip to London to explore a completely new to us area – the City of London. Our main aim was to see the Tower of London but we had a whole day before that of seeing the sights, doing a couple of viewing platforms – Garden at 120 and the One New Change Roof Terrace – seeing roman ruins – the Mithraeum and the Roman Ampitheatre and finally went to the Bank of England Museum. It was such a lovely trip and I always appreciate how close to London we live.

Booking Disney

A big thing this month was booking our next trip to Disney World! We were meant to go this summer but didn’t want it to impact LP’s GCSEs so we decided to go at the end of her GCSEs next summer instead. So when the free dining deal for 2027 was released last week we jumped on it. And it’s lovely having a shiny countdown to follow despite it being so far away!

Tax return

I also did my tax return early this year. And I know, that doesn’t sound like something fun or exciting but, it ticked a box and also meant I could juggle money around which is always nice to do! But YAY for no tax return for another 12 months!

New books

I love adding a couple of books I’ve read to this post each month and The Names has to be one of the best books I’ve read in a while. It’s hard to believe it’s a debut novel – and frustrating too, as it’s the kind of book where, once I’ve read it, I want to read everything else they have written! It cycles between three different realities, each one following a mum and her son through their life, but in each one she’d named her son something different. It’s such a different book, so well written and so thought provoking too. I really enjoyed it.

I also read another of Kristin Hannah’s older books this month – Distant Shores. It’s all about a husband and wife, with grown up kids off at university, who had lost their way. Husband was off living the dream, with felt lost with no husband and kids to look after. I think most women of a certain age would relate to at least part of this book, and I really enjoyed it. I’ve read most Kristin Hannah books now and I really don’t think there’d ever be a bad one.

And that’s our April. I hope the month has been good to you and that you have had a lot of moments of joy and positivity too.
