End of Primary School for Little Man {Ordinary Moments}

Back in 2016, Little Man started nursery. He’d seen his big sister going to nursery and school so when his turn came he couldn’t wait. He loved his teachers, his new friends and the new routine.

He blossomed at nursery, and went through speech therapy alongside his time there to get him ready for school the following year.

When he started school he looked tiny in his uniform but learnt so much, gaining the sponge-like quality that has stayed with him ever since. He has a thirst for knowledge and remembers so much, spouting facts constantly.

School went by quite uneventfully for Little Man – aside from the times when he broke his arm and so couldn’t write or do PE! Three broken arms within the space of a year is not something I ever want to repeat.

He also had his transition from Infants to Juniors unsettled thanks to the pandemic, and it definitely took him a while to get back to normal afterwards.

But, since then, Little Man has embraced school. He’s found his people – a couple of friends who totally get how he ticks. He loves to learn, always gives school his absolute best and has done things completely out of his comfort zone like speaking in school performances and being part of the school news team.

The last seven years have flown by and we have seen Little Man turn from a chubby faced preschooler into a gorgeous eleven year old with his next chapter right in front of him.

Little Man has blossomed through primary school. He has developed such a wonderful personality, such a great sense of humour and really clear likes and dislikes. It’s been such a privilege watching him grow and learn, turning into the young man he was always destined to be.

And after this week his primary school days are done. I’ll be walking him to school and picking him up for the last time. He’ll put his hand in mine to cross roads, chat to me about the latest Fortnite releases and tell me what his day at school will be like.

And then those Primary School days will be done. After the summer he’ll go off to secondary school, a whole new chapter and so many new experiences for him.

It’s the end of an era. Little Man’s primary school days are done – and our primary school days as a family are done too. It’s been a learning curve and I’m looking forward to seeing how Little Man does at secondary school, the friends he makes and the things he learns. Here’s to the next chapter and a whole new adventure.
