We’ve been making so many sweet puff pastry twists but the children also love savoury ones – especially if we make them at lunch time! These simple Cheese Puff Pastry Twists are great to make with the kids and can be varied to suit all tastes.

How do you make puff pastry cheese twists?
These cheesy Puff Pastry Twists are so easy to make. You only need an egg as an egg wash for the pastries before baking them, cheese and a sheet of ready made puff pastry – fresh or frozen puff pastry. For this we use a mix of mozarella and cheddar but you can use any grated cheese that you feel like.

Can you vary these cheese twists?
This cheese twist recipe can easily be varied to adapt to different tastes. We use mature cheddar and mozarella but you can use any cheese you have to hand. Parmesan cheese works really well, especially if you’re making these cheese twists as appetizers.
You can also add tomato puree or pizza sauce before the cheese to create cheese and tomato pizza twists for an added layer of flavour.

These cheese twists are a great alternative to puff pastry cheese straws but are very similar – and the children love them. They store well in an airtight container for a few days but are best eaten on the day they’re made although we do have them in lunchboxes and in picnic too.
