For LP’s 14th birthday over the summer we booked a Piggy Pet & Play session at Kew Little Pigs Farm. We always love animal experiences as a family and LP’s recently shown an interest in piglets so it looked like a lovely thing to do to celebrate her birthday.
What is Kew Little Pigs Farm?
Kew Little Pigs are a multi award-winning miniature pig farm in Amersham, Buckinghamshire with a variety of unique experiences where guests can pet and play with friendly pigs. They also have event hire and birthday party packages making it a great way to visit whatever the occasion.
Booking Piggy Pet & Play at Kew Little Pigs Farm
We booked our Piggy Pet & Play session at Kew Little Pigs Farm through Wowcher but Groupon often have deals available too. It’s great value, even full price, at £115 for two adults and two children for a two hour experience.
The Piggy Pet & Play session
The directions to Kew Little Pigs Farm were really clear and we found the site easily. There’s lots of free parking on site and everywhere has signs to make arriving really seamless. We had to rinse the bottom of our shoes in buckets provided and then waited in an area until our Piggy Pet & Play time arrived.

The session begins with everyone being checked in and a safety briefing, that starts at the main entrance and finishes at the petting pens. This explains what you can and can’t do with the pigs – no picking them up – and how many people can be in a pen at each time. Also, pigs can be brushed, using brushes provided, and there are some pens that you can’t enter – these have temperamental pigs in, heavily pregnant or hormonal pigs or young babies that aren’t ready to see visitors yet.

There are a lot of petting pens across Kew Little Pigs Farm and we loved moving from one to the next, getting to know the little piggy residents as we went along. We started off with the youngest pigs who were just a couple of weeks away from being re-homed. We could have easily spent all day with them.

Behind there was another pen with piglets in it that weren’t quite ready to see us yet – we missed them by a week – but we loved seeing them through the fence. An utterly gorgeous bunch who were so full of fun and mischief!

The pens seemed to house pigs of all different shapes and sizes, from smaller pigs up to great big pigs. We loved picking out our favourites and giving all of them a good stroke and brush. Meeting the pigs was definitely good for the soul.

We went round the pens vaguely in order and halfway round we came to a pen of goats who were busy eating and barging each other out of the way. They were great fun although we’d been warned that one was very boisterous and another was very shy – but it was lovely to see her come out of her shell as she got to know us.

The last pigs we met were some huge ones who explored so much and made so much noise as they snuffled around. There were benches in the enclosures so we could sit with the pigs and it was such a well paced experience, moving between the pigs and pens at our own pace.

We spent the last chunk of our experience with the baby pigs again whilst we chatted to staff about the pigs, how they are looked after and what happens to them. We found out that the farm breed micro pigs for sale to other petting zoos or as pets and that the majority of them end up elsewhere, with only a lucky minority getting to start at Kew Little Pigs Farm. It was great though to learn about the differences between this and the meat industry, especially finding out how caring the Micro mummy pigs are and how well looked after the piglets are by their mums too.

We, unknowingly, booked our session at the same time as a birthday party but, even with more people than typical, it wasn’t very busy and the farm was big enough to accommodate everyone who attended. We thought two hours was a great length of time for the experience – not too short and not too long either.

We had such a nice time at Kew Little Pigs Farm and it was great to see how well cared for the animals are, how they all go off to good homes and how much joy everyone gets from the Piggy Pet & Play sessions. We had such a nice time and would definitely go back.
