Kicking Up Leaves

Last week we went to Virginia Water again and this time took Dave’s Mum, the Kids’ Nanny with us for the walk. Nanny loves walking and so we walked all the way around the lake which exhausted me, up hills with the pushchairs and no real break apart from grabbing a cup of tea – but it was lovely to be out in the fresh air, the chill on the wind and the sun in the sky. It was a perfect winter morning.

On the walk back to the car LP got out of the pushchair and walked along with Nanny doing something she hadn’t done before – kicking up leaves! This is the first autumn that LP has really been able to experience and she loved walking by Nanny’s side, kicking the leaves, shuffling her feet through piles of them and picking the leaves up and throwing them in the air. LP had a fantastic time!

Keeping children entertained outside is so easy and this trip out was the perfect example of that. We paid £3 to park and had a few hours to walk, appreciate the beauty of Virginia Water and play with LP. Nanny even showed LP how to make fish out of leaves and LP took a leaf souvenir home with her – She’s getting quite a collection now of leaves, chestnuts and other bits and pieces!

Seeing the joy on LP’s face at something so simple as shuffling through the leaves was really lovely. Something so new and liberating for her. One minute to be sitting in the pushchair watching the world go by and the next minute having the wind in her face, her feet in the leaves and excitement filling her. It really was a joy to watch.

  1. I went to Virginia Waters with my four a few years ago. We did some geocaching there, but it was such a lovely place to walk around too. We spent hours there!

  2. I did laugh to myself that Nanny loves walking but opted NOT to push one of the chairs !! No wonder you were shattered playing packhorse. Looks like a fun time was had by all, nonetheless 🙂
