This week’s Beginning of Us comes from a really lovely friend of mine – Kate over at Family Fever. I can’t remember when I became friends with Kate. It’s one of those friendships that just happened and I am so glad it did. hardly a day goes by where I don’t talk to her online! Here’s how Kate met Kevin…
We met in December 2002, when I was 19. I was on a night out with a very good friend, a night out that I very nearly didn’t go on.
We had been out the night before too, and I was pretty knackered to be honest, so when my friend phoned to see if I was up for another night of clubbing I said no. However, he was very insistent and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing I agreed to head out with a group of our mates, and we all arranged to meet up at a local club to dance the night away.
On the way there, my friend told me there were a few new people joining us tonight, some people he had met through work, and he was telling me all about this one guy he thought would be perfect for me (you know what it’s like at that age, everyone’s a matchmaker).
We all met up, a few drinks were purchased and we all got to know each other.
The guy I was supposed to be perfect for turned out to be a bit of a wally, and was soon wasted and chatting up everything in a skirt. He definitely wasn’t the one for me. However, there was another guy in the group who I got chatting to, he bought me a few drinks, we had a dance and when the club shut we all headed back to a friend’s for a coffee and a kebab (classy).
After a couple of hours I headed home, but Kevin and I exchanged numbers and the following afternoon he gave me a call and we arranged to meet up.
The rest, as they say, is history. We got together pretty quickly and had moved in together by May. In January 2006 our first daughter was born and we got married that September. We went on to have 3 more children in 2008, 2013 and June this year.
Thanks Kate for sharing your story. I have always said ‘no-one meets the love of their life clubbing’ but you have proven me wrong! You have been together forever – and have four gorgeous kids to show for it! Lovely story!
