Afternoon tea is one of my favourite things in life. It’s such a treat and my ultimate luxury for a birthday or celebration. But, it’s also something I love to share with the children. However, it’s really hard to find options for traditional afternoon teas that cater for children of all ages.

Afternoon tea for children
I love going for afternoon tea as a family. With tiered cake stands, afternoon tea sandwiches cut into fingers and tiny cakes plus freshly baked scones with cream and jam. It’s such a british tradition and something I love sharing with the children. Like the perfect little tea party full of mini party food treats we can enjoy together at tea time.
But, when we have that beautiful, traditional afternoon tea experience, I want them to have the same experience on a smaller scale – not just giving them a scone or a slice of cake.
So I’ve scoured the hotels, restaurants, cafes and tea rooms of Hampshire to find ones that have afternoon tea options for children. Ones that offer an actual afternoon tea for kids rather than a cream tea option that you could buy for your children. A real family friendly afternoon tea experience.

Afternoon Tea as a Gift
It’s worth noting that many country houses, hotels, garden centres and cafes also offer gift vouchers for afternoon tea which would make a wonderful gift for a child or family. They could treat themselves to themed afternoon teas or a traditional afternoon tea for a birthday treat or any other occasion.
If you’re happy to travel a little further afield, these posts might give you more inspiration too – and there’s options for afternoon tea delivery as well.

I hope that has given you some afternoon tea inspiration around Hampshire. It’s definitely helped me to find more places to try – and we already have a couple of afternoon tea dates pencilled in the diary! Nothing quite meets a tray of homemade cakes, warm scones served straight from the oven and an extensive loose leaf tea menu!
I’ve included just the basic cost for adult afternoon tea – as this post was obviously all about the children! But, all of the options above had other afternoon tea options available. You can upgrade to champagne afternoon tea in most places or have a glass of Prosecco, a G&T or a cocktail in others. If you want more adult options, you can see our full guide to afternoon tea in Hampshire here.
If there’s anywhere I’ve missed that you know does a wonderful afternoon tea for children please do get in touch and let me know.
