When we travelled to New York in October half term we took a while to pick a hotel. We wanted somewhere that was in a good location – where we could walk to most things and not need to get the subway unless we wanted to. We also wanted somewhere affordable, and somewhere comfortable for our family for the duration of our holiday. In the end we chose the Park Central Hotel New York.

Where is Park Central Hotel in New York?
The Park Central Hotel New York is just a stones throw from Central Park, opposite Carnegie Hall on 7th Avenue. It’s well located a short walk from Times Square, the Rockfeller Center and many other New York attractions. It also has a few subway stops nearby so couldn’t be in a better location.
Staying at Park Central Hotel
When we arrived at the Park Central Hotel we were impressed by how spacious and glitzy the reception was. For an affordable New York break we weren’t expecting anything too fancy but the lobby was lovely.

We arrived before check in time and were able to leave our bags at the hotel whilst we went off to start our New York adventure. There was no charge for this and we really appreciated the luggage storage.
When we returned, fairly late in the day, our room was ready and so we collected our luggage and went to the room. The room location was not ideal – right opposite the lift – so we asked reception if we could switch rooms. They said they had no rooms available but we could go back tomorrow to ask to move again. However, we then realised part of the carpet in the room was soaking wet and again spoke to reception. They moved us fairly quickly into another room in a better location – and with no wet floor. It was amazing how a room could actually be found despite them apparently having no others available.
This wasn’t the best start but pretty much summed up our interactions with staff throughout our stay – it was very hit and miss and often staff seemed like they just did not care. It’s a shame as, aside from that, the hotel was lovely.
The rooms at Park Central Hotel
Our room at Park Central Hotel was a Classic Two Bed room. It had two double beds in the main living area, storage space and an iron and ironing board but not much else. It was very basic but fine for our needs for our 6 night trip.

The bathroom was a good size and there were complimentary toiletries and fresh towels however, weirdly, we were only given three towels each day. But, there were housekeeping carts in the corridors constantly so we just grabbed an extra towel on our way back each evening.

Park Central Hotel amenities
The Park Central Hotel was in a good location and we slept well, although there was the constant whirr of air conditioning units which we got used to. Considering we were in New York City, the room was really quiet overnight and really dark too.

As well as having free luggage storage on site, the hotel also has a Central Market grab and go food outlet in reception and the Twenty-Sevens restaurant, although this didn’t offer breakfast, just dinner Tuesday to Saturday. The hotel also had a gym on site.
Overall thoughts of the Park Central Hotel
We were really pleased with the Park Central Hotel as a base for our family break in New York. It was good value, well located and nice to go back to at the end of a long day of sightseeing.
However, it would have been nice to have a breakfast option in the hotel aside from the grab and go Central Market although there are so many places in New York to have breakfast this wasn’t a real problem. The only other improvement would have been for the staff to be a bit more friendly and attentive – this definitely took the shine off what could have been a fantastic hotel.
