A Birthday Trip to Costa Coffee {The Ordinary Moments}

This week I had my 29th Birthday. It was pretty much the same as most days although I had presents and cards and LP sang Happy Birthday to me! Because we are in the middle of LP’s potty training I didn’t want to venture too far or do anything ‘big’ with the day so instead we went to a local retail park for a spot of shopping to while away the morning.

The retail park has a TK Maxx, Mamas & Papas, Next and newly opened Home Sense along with a Costa Coffee and drive through McDonalds! Not the most aesthetically pleasing of places but somewhere to have a potter and take LP for her first outing since potty training began. I knew that Costa had a toilet if we needed one and we went armed with a potty, multiple outfit changes and a well stocked change bag – as well as a towel for her to sit on in the pushchair! Aside from this, it was only a 2 minute drive from our house so less chance of an accident in the car!

We had a lovely wander around the shops, asking LP if she needed a wee every two minutes. She said no consistently. We managed to spend an hour and a half in the shops with LP not needing the toilet – amazing! We then went to Costa for a drink and cake. This is something that we haven’t done very often as a family and definitely haven’t done since Little Man was born.

Little Man fell asleep in the sling so I sat with him while Dave sorted LP out. LP had a wee in her potty in the disabled toilet – she isn’t sure about using an actual toilet yet, and then we ordered out drinks. Dave had a Chocolate Orange Mocha Latte, I had a hot chocolate and LP had her first Babyccino! There were also cakes all round – It was my Birthday after all.

LP loved her little drink – her ‘grown up’ china cup and a teenie spoon. She was fascinated by it!

We had a really lovely trip out, even if it was only for a couple of hours. We really enjoyed spending the time as a family and we were really proud of how well LP did as far as potty training in concerned.

I think we will aim to go and ‘grab a coffee’ as a family at least once a month in future. LP enjoyed it and loved playing at being a grown up. At the moment this isn’t an ordinary moment of ours but I’m hoping it will become an ordinary moment over the months to come.
