Child-Free Weekends {The Ordinary Moments}
Welcome back to another week of the Ordinary Moments. If you haven’t joined in before this is a weekly linky that launches every Sunday morning and is open until midnight on the following Saturday. It’s a linky that celebrates any ordinary moments in your life – or the not so ordinary some weeks too. Basically – anything goes. I’ll be sharing and commenting on the posts that are linked up during the week and there’s a badge at the bottom of the post if you’d like to add it to yours too.
As a family we go away quite often – and more so now that Dave doesn’t work weekends. But as a couple we don’t get that much time together aside from the evenings when the children are asleep. So after going away last November for the weekend we vowed to spend time as a couple more often and go away a few times a year to have some time together, to relax and just appreciate each other’s company again.
So last weekend we went away, just us. The children had a lovely weekend at their grandparents and Dave and I got to have time out, chat and make plans. It was lovely to not have other people to think about for a weekend, have time out of everyday life and just be for a little while.
Although when you’re away without children a lot of the conversation still revolves around the children we did manage to make plans for the house, travel plans and talk about things we’d like to achieve in the next year or so.
We had a nice dinner, a lovely breakfast in the morning and even relaxed in the spa for a while. Although I had to work a little it was so nice to actually switch off for a weekend and we always come back from these weekends away feeling so much more present and together. It was lovely.
And now I’m already looking forward to the next time we get a break together, probably for our anniversary in a few months time. Before then though I know we’ll have lots more weekends away with our favourite little people tagging along for the ride.
If you have an ordinary moment this week, come and link up – I’m looking forward to reading the moments that you share and will comment and share them on Twitter through the course of the week. Thanks so much for taking part.

A child free weekend is so important isn’t it. Just a little time to be a couple again and yes I agree you do end up talking about the children but it’s nice just to talk to each other. Me and my husband have a weekend together in the Summer and I am looking forward to it. #ordinarymoments
Donna I can totally relate – I love weekends away without kids and its so refreshing. I love how you always end up making goals and getting excited for the future again. This sounds and looks so lovely and I am glad you had the opportunity to do that.
Ou goal was always valentines and Anniversary as thats in October it was spaces quite nicely!
Ah, I love this, for me and my husband I think it’s so important, we absolutely need this time together. We only normally manage one night away, I can’t be away from the children for to long. We didn’t manage it at all last year, we so desperately need it.
Looks like you had a lovely break away. Enjoy planing the next one.
Your really lucky to have Dave’s parents that love and are able to have the little people. We would love to have more time away together, but it’s tricky to leave them. When Holly starts school in September we’re going to make time during the day when we can to spend some time together, its so important x
Spending time away as a couple sounds perfect. It’s lovely to be in each other’s company without having to run after the children or tend to their every need. Thanks for hosting #ordinarymoments
Child free weekends are so important for relationships. It is good to be you again. I hope you had a good time xx #ordinarymoments
It sounds like an amazing little getaway for the two of you! I think that’s something I need to plan too – even if it’s just a few hours away from the kids. Life’s so busy and hectic all the time isn’t it? Such a lovely photo of the two of you too by the way!
