An Evening at Pixel Bunker Milton Keynes

Earlier this month we booked a session at Pixel Bunker for Little Man’s birthday. He loves computer games so a chunk of time at a free play arcade seemed like the perfect treat for him!

What is Pixel Bunker?

Pixel Bunker is a free play arcade in Milton Keynes. Every machine is set to free play so the only cost is the admission fee. With plenty of parking right outside, it’s a great place to book for a family day out, a birthday or a team building session.

When we arrived at Pixel Bunker we were given wrist bands and off we went! A Pixel Bunker session lasts three hours and you can literally play as many games as you like during that time.

Pixel Bunker have so many classic arcade machines like Pac-man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, OutRun, Street Fighter 2 and many more. Plus, they have pinball machines too.

We loved working our way around the arcade machines, playing some games individually and others in pairs – or even as a family! It was great that they had quite a few two or four player games.

The children loved the racing and shooting games and I really liked finding classic games from my childhood like Mortal Kombat, Super Mario and Frogger. Little Man’s mind was blown by seeing the original ‘Crossy Road’ in arcade machine format!

For us, three hours was too long as other free play arcades we’ve been to have been around 90 minutes per session. But, the session was great value and we were happy to leave after a couple of hours, feeling like we’d got our moneys worth of arcade play time!

The Pixel Bunker games were great but would probably be better suited to older players who remembered the games from years gone by. Although it’s a retro arcade, it would be good to introduce a few games from more recent decades. That said, there was a good variety of games and we all really enjoyed the games that we played.

Pixel Bunker is in the same building as the National Film and Sci Fi Museum which would be another great day out idea – or you could even go to the museum and Pixel Bunker on the same day!

The whole building is full of retro memorabilia, superheroes and props from movies. Anyone that loves movies and computer game would love visiting Pixel Bunker, there’s so much to look at as well as the games to play.

Pixel Bunker allow drinks in the centre as long as you don’t rest them on the machines and they have soft drinks, snacks and sweets available to purchase. There are toilets on site too.
