Our Garden Renovation

Disclosure: We were sent the featured products for the purpose of this post however all opinions are my own.

I wrote a month or so ago about our garden, the state it was in and our plans for the work. In the end the work went on for nearly a month due to a couple of hiccups along the way but the finished garden far exceeds our expectations. It was so hard to visualise the finished space, and imagine how big the garden would be without a huge shed right in the middle. But we couldn’t be happier with the garden now it’s done.

Our Garden Renovation

The work started with the garden being cleared, the old vegetable patches removed and a new concrete base installed for our new shed at the end of the garden. The gardeners put the new shed up for us and even moved everything from the old shed to the new one as well. We have had some issues with our new shed that I’ll be writing about in due course – but, enough about that for now.

A play area was then created in front of the shed, edged with sleepers and filled with play bark to house the children’s new adventure playground. It’s great that they have their own designated space and somewhere to play. I love that we can now see them wherever they are in the garden and we have a clear view from the house or patio.

The gardeners then removed the old shed and base – which took far longer than we anticipated as the base wasn’t just concrete but was reinforced with metal. This opened up the garden massively and allowed the gardeners to replace the rest of our fences and start work building the raised sleeper bed along the side.

As the level of the garden varied so much from one end to the other we had to have a line of retaining sleepers next to the hedge but I think it makes the space look so nice and uniform and means the grass won’t end up spreading. It also gives us space to have flowers under the hedge if we want to as well.

The lawn was the last part to get done and it finishes off the garden perfectly. Before, the patio was a good few inches higher than the lawn and now it’s a perfectly flat garden which is so much more usable and perfect for us as a family. We did look into getting artificial grass but it was too much of an expense at the same time as getting the rest of the garden done. However, it’s something we’re still looking to get done in the future and are constantly looking for cheap artificial grass options.

The gardeners also sorted out front garden – which I forgot to take photos of before the work – and makes it a much nicer space. It had been wrecked by the extension work with broken paving slabs and just mud everywhere but now it has stepping stones and gravel making it low maintenance and a lot nicer to look at.

As well as the new shed we’re also looking for new garden furniture to fit the new space and have also got a new bike storage shed near the house to keep the children’s bikes and scooters in as well as smaller garden toys making it much more easily accessible than the shed. I’ll even keep our wellies in there ready for a rainy day! Plus, if we’re out and get a delivery the postman and couriers know to leave anything in this shed – literally life changing!

We are so happy with the garden now it’s finished and I cannot wait for the weather to warm up for us to be able to use it properly. I know that we’ll be out in the garden so much more now it’s finished and it’s such a perfect space for us to use as a family. It’s so nice to have another job ticked off the list. Now, onto the next project!

  1. It’s looking amazing! I bet the children are going to love having their own playground. I really like the idea of a separate bike store, our shed ends up so cluttered with bikes in there as well. I might look into one when we get our garden done.
