Liked & Loved {August 2025}

It’s that time of the month again where I share all the things we’ve liked and loved over the last few weeks. It feels like only yesterday that I was writing the July instalment, just after the kids broke up for the summer, and now I’m writing the next one, on the cusp of going back to school!

So here are all the things we’ve been loving over the summer:

Brighton

We kicked off the summer holidays with an evening in Brighton, and it was my perfect kind of evening. We played in the arcades, won lots of toy ducks and got fish and chips that we ate on the beach, next to the pier. It was lovely.

Conquest Challenges

At the start of the summer holidays I undertook my very first virtual challenge – a Conquest Challenges Inca Trail. It was great fun, helped me and the kids to be more active and I even got a medal at the end! You can read more about it here, and get 20% off your next virtual challenge too!

Gilbert White’s House

Before going on holiday we squeezed in a day at Gilbert White’s House, somewhere we had only been in the evening before for a festive light trail. Well, Gilbert White’s House is just as, if not more, beautiful in daylight! With the house to explore as well as the gardens, we had such a nice morning, following the Alice in Wonderland Trail and seeing Gilbert White’s House in all its glory. I’ll be writing a full review asap but for now you can see a Reel of our visit here.

Our summer holiday

This summer we went somewhere we haven’t been before – to the UAE for two weeks. We flew into Dubai and stayed in Ras Al-Khaimah, about an hour drive north of the city. It was a lovely beachy holiday, with temperatures peaking at around 40 degrees most days. We spent a lot of time by and in the pool, ate so much great food, drank cocktails and switched off so much too. It was just what we needed.

Whilst we were on holiday we hired a car and had three trips into Dubai, seeing the Dubai Mall, going up the Burj Khalifa, exploring the Dubai Frame and having a ride on a traditional Abra boat. We also spent an evening doing a dessert safari which was incredible. I felt like we got a real feel of Dubai and the UAE and had a really lovely holiday.

New books

We were sent a new book from Scholastic this month, Medusa Gorgon’s Bad Hair Day which LP couldn’t wait to read. The book is beautifully illustrated and all about Greek goddess Medusa – if she was an ordinary 12-year-old girl. It’s all about the everyday frustrations of Medusa – and what happens when she doesn’t control her anger. Spoiler alert – it’s snake hair!! A great book if your kids want to try something new or just love the Ancient Greeks!

Coldplay

Straight after coming home from holiday we went to see Coldplay at Wembley – and it was SO good!! We’ve seen Coldplay quite a few times now, and they always put on a fantastic show, but this time we took the kids with us, and it was a great night out.

Millets Falconry

We also had a day out at Millets Wildside at Millets Farm Centre as Little Man has wanted to see real life raccoons for a very long time. There aren’t very many of them in the UK, as they’re an invasive species and you’re not able to breed them, but we discovered Millets and it ended up being a really lovely day out. I’ll share a review soon.

And there you have a few highlights of our August. It’s LP’s birthday tomorrow so I’m sure I’ll have even more to share next month! I hope, whatever you got up to, that you had a lovely summer too.
