Can you believe we’re a whole month into the school year already? I don’t know where the time is going! But, it’s that time again where I share all the things we’ve been enjoying and appreciating over the last few weeks. It’s a time I always look forward to, savouring the moments of joy that the month has given us.

So here’s everything we’ve Liked & Loved this month:

LP’s Birthday

Just after our last Liked & Loved instalment, it was LP’s 14th birthday. I write a letter to the kids on each of their birthdays and I honestly don’t know where the years have gone. 14 already! In Year 10 at school and just so grown up. She’s such a beautiful person and I could not be more proud of her.

Kew Little Pigs

For LP’s birthday we went to Kew Little Pigs Farm for a Piggy Pet & Play session. It was lovely! We literally spent two hours stroking, brushing and chatting to pigs – including some gorgeous piglets. The weather stayed nice for us and we went to Toby Carvery on the way home. It was a really nice day.

Back to School

LP and Little Man have both settled back into school really well. They’re in Year 8 and 10 and both seem so grown up now – especially Little Man who has grown so much over the last few months. I’m sure he’s taller than me now!

Lost 4 Words Game

We love finding new games to play as a family and over the last few weeks we’ve been playing Lost 4 Words from The Happy Puzzle Company. The aim of the game is to find the word that can go before or after each word on the card to create four new words.

Lost 4 Words is a quick-fire word game that features 500 different cards. We found some words easier to think of than others – two part words were much easier to work out than new, longer, singular words where the word on the card and the new, added part blended together. We found it great for broadening the children’s vocabularies – and refreshing the adult ones! You can play with up to four people or, with more than that, you can play as teams. It’s great fun if you enjoy a wordy game!

Big Ben

One Saturday we spent the day in London and had one of the best experiences we have ever had. We booked to climb up Big Ben – up stairs inside, rather than scaling the outside! We got to go all the way to the top, see the clock mechanics working and stand next to the bells as they rang – with ear defenders thankfully! We walked behind the clock faces and got to see the view from the top of Big Ben. It was amazing and something I am so glad I booked.

Afternoon Tea

On the same day we took the children for their first ‘adult’ afternoon tea experience at Caffe Concerto. We booked it through a Groupon deal, making it great value, and it was such a nice way to spend some time together whilst it poured with rain outside. The afternoon tea was delicious and there are so many Caffe Concertos across London that I’m sure we’ll go to another one at some point.

Six the Musical

LP and I finished the day by seeing Six the Musical whilst the boys went in search of Jellycats and Lego. It was part of her birthday present and she had wanted to see it for ages. It was such a great show and we both really enjoyed it – the songs are so catchy and it really portrays Henry VIII’s wives in a completely new light!

A new coat from Cotton Traders

This month I’ve been wearing a new coat from Cotton Traders that is perfect for the cooler temperatures of autumn, as well as the unpredictable rain showers! I’m loving the new Cotton Traders collection – not just my new coat – and it’s all so Full of Surprises, with lovely colours perfect for the autumn and lots of different materials that are great for layering and dressing up or down. Autumn is always such a hard time of year to dress for but Cotton Traders have definitely got me covered.

Whirly Derby

Another game that we’ve really enjoyed this month is Whirly Derby from Big Potato Games. An action packed, marble racing game, it’s like nothing we’ve played before – and all ages loved it. It’s the perfect game for competitive people, it doesn’t involve much thinking, can be picked up easily and even the loser on each round gets a reward.

Once you’ve mastered the basic game, there’s an advanced level to make it a little more challenging – where there are additional ways to score points and where a marble can block the gameplay, stopping everyone in their tracks! We absolutely loved this game and know we’ll be playing it regularly.

Englefield Gardens

Dave and I finally managed to get to Englefield Gardens for a little jolly this month. It’s the gardens of a fancy house nearby that are only open on a Monday. It’s a lovely place to have a wander and much quieter than going to a National Trust property or similar. I can’t wait to go again.

And that’s our September! We have a busy few weeks coming up – with my birthday and then our trip to New York, where I’ll be when our next instalment goes live! I hope you have had a lovely September and I’ll be back with our next update in a few weeks.
