Italian Puff Pastry Pizza Twists Recipe

We love making puff pastry twists as a simple snack for the kids – they even enjoying helping to make them. They’re quick and easy as well as being a fantastic addition to a picnic, lunchbox or buffet spread. I thought I’d share our easy puff pastry pizza twists recipe.

Ingredients

  • a sheet of ready made puff pastry
  • 50 g tomato puree
  • 200 g cheese grated – we use a mix of mature cheddar and mozzarella!
  • an egg beaten in a small bowl

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200C/400F/Gas 7 and line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper
  • Make sure the pastry is at room temperature and unroll onto a clean work surface
  • Cut the pastry in half length ways
  • Spread tomato puree evenly over one half of the pastry
  • Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the top of the tomato puree
  • Place the other half of the pastry on top and press down firmly
  • Cut the pastry sandwich you’ve created into twelve equal strips
  • Twist each pastry strip and place on the prepared baking sheet
  • Brush with the beaten egg and put any leftover cheese on the top
  • Put the baking tray in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown
