What the Little Redhead Read {Jan-Feb 2019}

Some of the books featured in this post were sent to us by the publisher, however, we weren’t asked to feature them in any way. I’ve added a * next to those books for reference.

LP loves to read and so we thought it might be nice for her to share the books she’s been reading in case any parents of similar aged children are looking for reading inspiration. I’ve always shared children’s books in my regular round up posts and over on social media but I thought it would be nice for LP to have her own spot on here every so often. So over to LP with what she’s been reading this month – who, for reference, turned seven in August.

The Secret Diary of Jane Pinny – Victorian House Maid

This book was good. It was about a Victorian house maid that solves a mystery about stolen Jade necklace. It was full of nice characters, my favourite was the housemaid – she has ginger hair too! The book had pictures in and was full of facts and taught me things like free schools didn’t exist until 1891 – before that children had to go to school but their parents had to pay!

* Jungle Jamboree – Jo Empson

This book was really bright and colourful and full of animals. A leopard, three frogs, a lion, a hippo, a bird, a zebra and a fly. Each page of the book has writing all around so I have to look for it which makes it interesting. The sentences rhyme too which is fun! It’s all about the jungle animals having a competition to see who is the most beautiful animal of them all. I really enjoyed this book and my brother did too.

* Two Sides – Polly Ho-Yen

I thought this book was really good. It was about two girls that were born on the same day who are best friends. They are very different. They are complete opposites. But they are still the very best of friends.

* Little Rabbit’s Big Surprise – Swapna Haddow

I really enjoyed this book – and read it in a day! It was about a little rabbit that had a big surprise from her grandfather. The little rabbit helps one of her friends’ grandmothers get better because she had a cold. The book had really nice pictures in that I liked.

The Worst Witch – Jill Murphy

This book is about a little girl called Mildred and she is the worst witch at a boarding school for witches. In the story the school is going to get turned into snails and it’s down to Mildred to see if she can save the day! I really enjoyed this book and I think witch school sounds a bit scary – with a scary teacher – but lots of fun too!

The Witches – Roald Dahl

I thought this book was a bit scary in places but very exciting. It finished with a cliffhanger and it was like dun dun dun – what’s going to happen next?!

I loved this book especially the characters – my favourite was the little boy because he was the main character and was similar to me. I could imagine being the main character in this book.

*Spider {Dirty Birtie} – Alan Macdonald

This book was about Dirty Birtie – I’ve read other Dirty Birtie books before and it had some of the same characters and some new ones. I like Dirty Birtie because he’s funny and always gets into trouble. In this book there are three stories. One of them is about finding buried treasure, one is about finding a spider in the bath and the other one is about Dirty Birtie getting a new jumper from his Granny which he calls a knitted horror! This book made me laugh.

So that is the first installment of What the Little Redhead read. LP loves knowing that when she reads a book I’ll be sharing it with you all so I’m sure we’ll be back in a couple of months with more books that she’s been enjoying.
