Our Toy Box

When LP was small I hunted everywhere for a toy box. I wanted one that would fit into our home, that could grow with LP and that we could have for a long time to come. It took me a very long time to find what I was looking for.

During my hunt for the perfect toy box I found many other toy storage solutions. We invested in an Ikea Expedit with brightly coloured storage boxes and turned the lounge into a playroom. We bought boxes on wheels to keep books in downstairs and we filled the walls with shelves upstairs for books, cuddly toys and keepsakes.

We eventually found our dream toy box, thanks to eBay! A fairly local solid wood furniture shop was closing down and sold all their stock on eBay. We grabbed the toy box at a bargain price along with a sideboard – Both great investments, you really can’t beat solid wood furniture. The toy box is large, well made and has ‘Toys’ carved out of the front. The only problem with the toy box is that it’s lacking a gas strut and we’re looking to get one fitted from somewhere like SGS Engineering Solutions, to make sure that the lid opens easily and stays open until you close it to stop any accidents with the babies!

Our Toy Box

Our toy box is something that sits in pride of place in our lounge. It will stay storing the children’s toys as they grow and will be in our house even when the children are teenagers, maybe even into their adulthood! It is one my favourite things in our home and something that is so symbolic of childhood.

How do you store your children’s toys? Do you have any pieces of furniture that are functional but also fit into your home perfectly?

That really is a lovely toy box – we had one my dad made, it had a foam pad on top for sitting on too. I think my brother still has it actually. A good toy box is definitely one that’ll stay in the family.

That is a gorgeous toy box. We have lots of the IKEA storage which is practical but doesn’t look anywhere near as pretty as this!
