TomTom Go 5000: Getting home in time for the bedtime story

TomTom recently got in contact to tell us about their new TomTom Go 5000 and Alfie’s story children’s book package. Alfie’s story has been written to raise awareness of the fact busy parents don’t have time to read to their children any more. A recent study completed by TomTom showed that 65% of parents believe reading to their children is important for their progression but working late and the daily commute are key reasons why parents miss reading a bedtime story with their children. With this in mind, TomTom is striving to help parents claw back a few extra minutes each day to make sure they can have that bedtime story with their children.

What is the TomTom Go 5000?

TomTom Go 5000 is a sat nav system with a difference. It features LifeTime TomTom Traffic which helps you to find the quickest route home with live traffic information, always finding you the best way to get home and to miss the worst of the traffic – whether that’s on your way home from work, from a day out or on the school run.

I have always used sat nav to help me get to places that I hadn’t been before, or I wasn’t that familiar with but until now I had never thought of sat nav as a way of getting me to places I knew as safely but quickly as possible and it’s only since being sent the TomTom Go 5000 that I have been using it almost daily to make sure I miss any traffic on the major roads near us – the M3 and M25 mainly – roads that I have driven down every week for years and that I know so well but where I can’t predict the traffic – that’s where TomTom Go 5000 helps!

What features are on the TomTom Go 5000?

The TomTom Go 5000 has all the features you would expect from a sat nav system as well as advanced lane guidance to help make sure you’re always in the right lane and taking the right exit from roundabouts and motorways, quick search that helps you find the right destination a lot quicker and unlimited data and roaming for the live traffic updates at no extra cost. It also has voice activation which lets you keep your hands on the wheel whilst driving and still change destination.

It has a great size 5 inch screen which is really clear and a battery life of up to 2 hours although I have been keeping it plugged into the car charger for ease, especially on long journeys. It mounts easily onto the windscreen and is simple to setup and use without even reading the instructions – my kind of gadget! The interface is self explanatory and I’ve found the TomTom Go 5000 a lot more seamless than our previous sat nav system.

There are so many things to see on the TomTom Go 5000 map and each one can be tapped for more information – traffic incidents, points of interest, destinations. It also shows your exact location when you turn it on and a live traffic update. The map can also be shown in 3D to make navigating built up areas easier although I tend to stick to the standard 2D map.

How have we found using the TomTom Go 5000?

Since using the TomTom Go 5000 I have found the traffic updates have saved me so much time and I am beginning to wonder how I ever managed without them. We have often missed traffic jams and delays by taking an alternative route when the TomTom Go 5000 has prompted us to do so and for me this is a huge benefit of this sat nav over others and I wish I bought a sat nav this advanced when I was first purchasing one – you will never need another sat nav!

I love the TomTom project to get parents home quicker to read a bedtime story and for me the TomTom Go 5000 has definitely saved us those precious minutes that could then be spent with the kids. For us, a bedtime story is a big part of our day and something that we really look forward to. Anything that can help us have that quality time with the children before bed is definitely a good thing.

For anyone buying the TomTom Go 5000 you can redeem your complimentary copy of Alfie’s Story online by uploading your purchase receipt within 21 days from the date of purchase.

Story time is incredibly important to us, and a part of the every night ritual. I think it’s a great idea for TomTom to promote it like this 🙂
