It’s that time again – awards season in the world of blogging. Both The MADs awards and Britmums BiBs have now opened for nominations and it’s pretty much all anyone is talking about. This time of year is tough in many ways – people don’t know who to vote for as there are just so many great blogs out there, a lot of people also don’t want to put themselves forward – either because they don’t have enough faith in themselves or don’t want to be seen as begging for votes. And for me? I love nominating people, I love seeing friends win awards that they truly deserve and I love the true community feel that the awards bring. Whoever wins an award has the whole blogging community behind them and it reinforces the fact that I am part of quite an incredible thing.
This year there are so many categories and many blogs that I read fit into a few of each category. If you need inspiration of who to vote for, here are a few of my favourites – some categories have so many amazing choices!
Mental Parentals has shared updates with us throughout her pregnancy – and now has a very new baby boy! The Mummy Adventure has documented her fourth pregnancy beautifully with a snowman gender reveal and such natural updates. Mummy Daddy Me has let us into every step of her third pregnancy and has created beautiful videos along the way. Running in Lavender has given us such lovely updates throughout her pregnancy – with a baby due any day now. Goblin Child has stunned us with her second twin pregnancy, two boys and now two girls! Write Like No-One’s Watching has let us share her pregnancy with her, in updates, videos and poignant posts. The Oliver’s Madhouse has shared her whole pregnancy with us and now has the most beautiful, very new, baby boy added to her family. Not a Frumpy Mum had such a heartfelt journey into this pregnancy and I admit I cried when I read her announcement. Inside Out & About has shared beautiful posts about her pregnancy and I cannot wait until her third baby makes an arrival. Budding Smiles shared one of the cutest pregnancy videos – and I can’t wait until she shares her baby girl with the world in a couple of months time.
Baby Blogs (Family)
Belle Du Brighton has shared so many lovely updates, not just of baby Arlo but the bond he shares with his gorgeous sister too. Family Fever has shared so much about life with her four children – including the latest edition Eliza. Dear Beautiful has welcomed another gorgeous girl into her family and a few months on it’s hard to remember a time when there wasn’t just a Beautiful Boy and Beautiful Girl around. Toby Goes Bananas has shared so much about life, going from a family of three to a family of four and it has been a joy to watch baby Gabe grow.
Pre-School Blogs (Family)
Plutonium Sox has shared loads about life with two preschool age children and all the adventures they have been on. Going on an Adventure shares so much about family life with three beautiful children and although two are now at school her Instagram feed and blog are filled with pre-school fun. Mummy and Monkeys shares so much about family life and her daughter really is the cutest! Hayley from Home has a gorgeous boy at school but she also has two pretty amazing toddler twin sons who get up to all sorts! I also love following Mrs Shilts adventures with Olly and all the great things they do. Hello Baby is a beautiful blog, with beautiful children and so much about family life and pre-school days.
Schooldays Blogs (Family)
City Girl Gone Coastal has shared a couple of years of her twin son’s school life, as well as so much else and every post is such a joy to read. Maybush Studio’s son started school last September and he has grown so much in that short amount of time! Inside Martyn’s Thoughts talks about all aspects of home schooling life with his sons and some of the things they do look pretty awesome.
Life With Munchers has shared every step of life with a new baby amongst their ongoing home renovations and so much else in between. This blog really is the definition of lifestyle! Innocent Charms Chats shares so much about family life but also lets us glimpse into her home too and even runs a home linky. Life at the Little Wood is written at one of the most beautiful houses you will ever see. Emma writes about all aspects of family life and her stunning home too. The London Mum writes about family life but also their home renovation, travel and so much more. Laura’s Lovely Blog is a really lovely mix of family, fashion and health – the perfect lifestyle mix.
There’s only one craft blog that I have ever read religiously and that’s Let’s Do Something Crafty. Jess is so talented and there’s really no need to use Pinterest for ideas when you have her blog in front of you.
Casa Costello is one of my new favourite food blogs – I think she can actually make any cake! Mrs Bishop Bakes and Banter is a family foodie blog that I have been reading for a couple of years now and I love the mix of food and family life. Let’s Talk Mommy is one of my favourite blogs for food styling – her recipes sound incredible but look even better.
Mummy Says writes about some hard hitting topics but she is always emotive, open, honest and so passionate that it’s hard not to see things from her side, agree with her and still be thinking about the topic hours later. Slouching Towards Thatching writes about such diverse topics, but writes them so well. His posts are easy to read, well written and really get his point across.
Best Use of Photography
There are just so many beautiful photography blogs but I love Shutterflies for her true to life, beautiful photos. Snowing Indoors takes wonderful pictures of her family and her black and white photos capture moments like nothing else. Sorry About The Mess has photos I have always loved. Beautiful colours and lovely themes.
Best Use of Video
Mama Geek has such lovely videos included within posts and also shares a her month in a minute every single month. Brummy Mummy of 2 will always make me laugh with her videos – so honest and just so entertaining.
A Cornish Mum is without a doubt my favourite new blog. Everyone seems to think that Stevie has been around for years but really it’s only just over a year and she has achieved so much in that time – having a fantastic blog series and hosting a linky as well as putting the world to rights on Type 1 Diabetes too. Squished Blueberries has literally only been around a couple of months but you would never know it. Her blog is beautiful – as is her photography. Raising the Rings is such a lovely blog with a really nice mix of posts, family, home and life.
Social Media (BiBs)
I was short listed for this category a couple of years ago – back when I had the time to use social media properly and now I really just bumble along – apart from the time I spend in the UK Parent Bloggers Facebook Group! Ghostwriter Mummy is all over social media, and uses it in a way that it’s intended for. Chelle McCann and The Mumington Post is also all over the world wide web, on every platform and so knowledgable too. The DadVenturer is one of my favourite people on social media – making me laugh daily especially since dipping his toe into the world of Vlogging too! You Baby Me Mummy gets everywhere on social media and I think, anyone would agree, this is the category for her.
Inspirational Blogs (BiBs)
Thinking about this category always makes me emotional. Blogs make you so close to people without even meeting them and one person that has inspired me beyond measure over the last few months is Mama Mim. Mim has dealt with her breast cancer diagnosis and her subsequent treatment, hair loss and everything else with such a great attitude, such positivity and such strong will. Brave does not even come close to describing Mim – but inspirational pretty much sums her up. I can’t not mention Rainbeaubelle here either. It shames me to admit that I only started reading Julia’s blog after her husband died but since then I have read back to so many of her old posts, about his diagnosis, their family life and the ordinary things. Then I have read most posts since and more than once they have brought me to tears. I don’t know how any young Mum can cope losing her partner and best friend at such an early age but Julia has been so strong. Both Julia and Mim have shared their stories, and continue to do so and I am sure that in doing so they will help countless other people going through similar things.
Reader’s Choice (BiBs)
Now this is a category for anything that doesn’t tick any of the other boxes. An eclectic mix of a blog or a blog that people love for no other reason. Is it bad that I’d like to put myself forward for this award? My blog has grown so much over the last few years, and at times it has been pulled into all sorts of directions, but still keep our family at it’s roots. There are so many well deserving blogs in every other category, as you can see above, that I think, really, this is the one for me. What do you think?
If you would like to vote in the MADs you can do so here and for the BiBs the link is here.
