I love shopping for Christmas presents but for me, gift giving at this time of year is all about the little things that you know someone will love rather than the big, expensive gifts. So I’ve put together some stocking filler ideas for the whole family.
The first stocking filler we ever think of is chocolate and Cadburys are always the first port of call. With selection boxes, tubes of your favourite chocolates, festive treats and even chocolate snowballs you can eat with a spoon they really do have treats that the whole family can enjoy.
Haribo is another firm favourite with tubs of sweets for sharing through the festive season, bags of sweets, Maoam crackers and stars of sweets that are perfect for both the stocking or hanging on the tree!
For a more indulgent chocolate stocking filler, Guittard have a whole range of premium chocolate bars with flavours to suit every taste. With different amounts of cacao and with hints of caramel apple, cherry or coconut – to name a few – there will be a bar for everyone.
We always buy fudge at Christmas and Buttermilk’s Christmas varieties are the perfect stocking filler for any age. Gingerbread, Mince Pie and Cranberry and Orange flavours are all wonderful for the festive season.
One thing I always put in Hubby’s stocking is a set of coffee syrups. They are the perfect gift for any coffee lover and they’re something that can be enjoyed all year round.
For those hard to buy for grown ups alcohol will always be a good stocking filler. 58Gin have 10cl bottles that I know any gin lover would appreciate in their stocking this year. A sophisticated flavour combination providing a wonderful balance between citrus and savoury.
Apothic Dark would be a gift that could be enjoyed with Christmas dinner – the perfect accompaniment for richer foods and succulent red meats that can be savoured long into the evening.
A new find of mine is Barefoot Bubbly Pinot Grigio. Pinot Grigio has long been a favourite wine of mine but now there’s a sparkling version that I know many of my friends would enjoy over Christmas.
You can’t forget pets when it comes to edible gifts though. Forthglade have created Christmas dinner for dogs – a complete meal of turkey, cranberry and parsnips as well as Christmas treats for dogs too.
But Pooch and Mutt have a whole Christmas dinner wrapped up in a treat! They are the perfect healthy treat for dogs but include all the great flavours of Christmas dinner – minus the sprouts.
Stocking fillers aren’t just about food. I love to buy something practical that adults can really use and enjoy. Stirr from Uutensil is an amazing invention and quite a substantial and worthwhile stocking filler. It stirs pans for you so that you can get on and do other jobs without the worry of your lovely sauce or soup sticking to the pan. I know many people who would love one of those this Christmas!
Tools and DIY gifts are always popular too and a Multi Light Torch and Lamp from JML would be a great gift – with the ability to fix the lamp anywhere with the magnetic base, rotate the light and use it for just so many jobs.
Or for something that can be kept with the recipient all the time to use in emergencies a Multi Tool Pen could be the perfect gift! It can be used as a pen but turns into a screwdriver, stylus, spirit level and ruler! A gift that keeps on giving.
For something more relaxing, Amphora Aromatics’ home aroma range of candles and reed diffusers would be the perfect stocking filler. Candles are often a go-to gift of mine and Amphora is a brand I have only recently discovered but one I love. The candles are all natural and clean burning, lasting for 20 or 40 hours and the whole range of diffusers and candles come in a variety of scents to enhance wellbeing.
But, there is so much choice where candles are concerned and another favourite of mine is Natural Spa Factory. They create beautiful candles in so many different fragrances which all come in beautiful glass candle holders that can be used long after the candle has finished burning. The candles come in beautiful presentation boxes making them an instant gift. They also have a generous burn time of up to 50 hours and an even, clean melt.
If you’re looking for a real treat for any new mum and baby then the Me Time Box from Baby2Body would be perfect. It’s designed with busy mums in mind and is full of carefully chosen products to help you relax, unwind, and take care of yourself. It comes complete with a beautifully printed wash bag and so many great products to enjoy. Baby2Body also have a pregnancy version of the box and a fantastic free to download app for pregnancy and motherhood. It’s a personalised health and wellbeing coach that tracks your pregnancy and baby’s age afterwards with stage updates, daily tips and so much lifestyle guidance too.
Health and beauty gifts are also another fail safe for me and you cannot beat a good Nivea lip care set. This Luscious Lips tin has four different Nivea products that will last you long after the festive season.
Gift sets of smellies are also popular and Argan+ Moroccan Mini Treats would be appreciated by everyone. With a body soak, body wash, body butter and lip balm it gives a treat to your whole body in one lovely set.
Yardley’s English Rose Hand Cream comes in a cracker box, making it the perfect gift for a stocking or just to pop on the tree! Or, for a more substantial beauty gift Vichy’s Mini Mask Kits are a compact set of naturally infused mineral, complexion perfecting face masks.
Electric toothbrushes are a great stocking filler – but often quite pricey. SONIC Chic DELUXE is a portable electric toothbrush that is great for travelling, festivals or just a weekend away. They’re a great size to fit in a handbag and come in a range of colours too.
JML’s Max Lash Fibre Lash Extension Mascara would make a great gift – increasing the volume and length of your own natural eyelashes instantly. It looks simple to use, isn’t going to break the bank and makes a change from traditional mascara – wiping off easily with make up remover too!
For a practical but lovely stocking filler, Nelsons Arnicare Bath & Massage Balm is enriched with evening primrose and sweet almond oil to naturally hydrate the skin. It can be massaged into tired muscles or used in a relaxing bath following a hectic day – the perfect way to unwind after a busy Christmas.
Carrying on the health and beauty theme but for teenagers, Pixie Lott’s hair colour mix includes six temporary colours that could make hair so bright and great for nights out, festivals or just for fun.
For children, Oral-B’s range of character toothbrushes are fun and practical but such a great investment too. They have a whole range of characters on them too from Frozen and Star Wars to Cars and Spiderman so perfect for every child.
Good Bubble also have gift sets that are perfect for any baby or young child – and we still use their products now with the children both being at school! Their products smell great and the gift set includes a bath mitt as well – making it a really lovely stocking filler.
It’s nice to buy something fun but practical too and you can’t get much more for or practical for little ones than Litecup. It’s a cup to use through the day but at night time it illuminates to give a lovely night light glow – and they can see just where their drink is. They are available in three different styles too so there’s a Litecup for every age – from babies all the way through childhood.
Carrying on the night light theme, a Unicorn Mood Light is something I think any child would love in their room – actually, I know a lot of adults that would probably love it too! It gives off a lovely coloured glow that changes colour and is so nice and relaxing too.
And a practical, fun gift perfect for any age would be the JML Cuppa Cake, microwaveable cake maker. If you’ve ever heard of mug cakes this goes one step better – letting you make a fully fledged cupcake, complete with cake shape, in the microwave.
More fun and practical ideas would be anything from the Tum Tum store. They sell a huge range of cutlery, tableware and accessories for children that are bright, bold and just so much fun. Everything they stock makes eating as a toddler and through childhood as easy and fun as possible. Their cutlery is easy to grip and one range fixes together easily for storage. Everything is durable, made to last and the perfect companion for any meal time.
Every year, without fail, the children have a cuddly toy of some description in their stockings. This year’s cuddly of choice is something from the Hallmark Itty Bittys range. This Christmas they’ve launched so many festive choices including a Christmas Mickey and Minnie and festive Star Wars characters too!
Golden Bear Toys have a fantastic range of stocking fillers including Bush Baby World Dreamstars. Bush Babies are so popular at the moment and the Dreamstar range literally come alive in your hands! They’re made from soft and cuddly fabrics and have six characters to collect, all with eyes or ears that wiggle making them so life like and lovable.
My First JCB Muddy Diggers Water Squirters are the perfect bath toy for any vehicle loving child. They feature muddy patches which ‘wash off’ in warm water, appearing again as they dry off. Such a simple toy and one that would be perfectly placed in a stocking.
Any Mr Tumble fan would love a Noisy Nose Mr Tumble. He’s a really soft and cuddly toy with a squeak in his nose, making him perfect for babies and toddlers. A cuddly toy companion any fan would love to have by their side.
Another fun thing for any age would be the Mitre Star Wars Scriball. In a whole range of designs they let you colour in an actual football before playing with it. This adds another level to sport and makes a football that no-one else on the pitch would have. I’m sure adults and children alike would love it.
A new range of toys we’ve been loving are Awesome Little Green Men. They actually come in blue too and have so many little men to collect – and surprise ones in each pack. They are perfect for acting out stories and imaginative play – plus every child loves having something to collect!
Every child loves something creative and BLO pens are a new discovery for us. So much fun and so much more exciting than traditional colouring pens – they are the perfect stocking filler for any artistic child.
Every child loves to play with sand and Zippi Motion Sand from JML is great for indoor play, whatever the weather. It’s completely mouldable – and includes moulds in the pack – making it a really tactile, creative toy and a great stocking filler.
I am sure most children have play kitchens or play kitchen equipment at some point and we’ve loved collecting well made, wooden play kitchen accessories for the children over the last few years. A great addition to any play kitchen would be this set of children’s utensils. Well made and featuring eight different items from a rolling pin and meat tenderiser to a masher and whisk it’s the only set children will need to roll play every different type of cooking for themselves.
The perfect stocking filler when it comes to something fun or creative is Apples to Pears range of Mini Gift in a Tin products. The tins are jam packed with fun and have everything from creative sewing kits to toy cars, wooden play towns or vehicle building sets. They are great as a little extra gift that any child will love and they would be fantastic to keep a child occupied on a long journey or away for the weekend – they are always a go-to gift for us.
Dear Zoo is a bit of a childhood tradition, one that spans generations and that adults and children really have enjoyed for decades. So Dear Zoo is something I always know children will love as a gift but not just the book – toys too! These wooden vehicles are a fantastic stocking filler – especially as the animals can be taken out of the carriage and put back in again! A really beautiful addition to any stocking.
A great alternative to toys for a child’s stocking is a baking kit and BKD have so many of them. There are festive options like Snowflake Biscuits or gingerbread as well as baking kits that are perfect at any time of the year. Our children love to bake and with everything perfectly portioned out BKD kits make baking with children just so simple. A really lovely gift that the whole family can enjoy.
Books are another popular stocking filler in our house and top of our list for pre-teens is ‘The Fizzle Trilogy’, by Tim Walker. They follow the adventures of Polly and Tom as they seek to unravel the mystery of a special, seemingly magical water known as the Fizzle. Each book is set in a different location and through all three books you get to see them overcome a host of evil villains and deadly perils as they draw closer to meeting the Fizzle’s creator, and discovering its true purpose.
Two books that are high on my Christmas list but ones that would be perfect for any age are are Roald Dahl’s Billy and the Minpins and Terry Pratchett’s Father Christmas’s Fake Beard. Billy and the Minpins is a remake of one of my favourite Roald Dahl books – The Minpins. It’s beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake in a style that any Roald Dahl fan will know and love.
Terry Pratchett’s Father Christmas’s Fake Beard is a collection of ten stories that will have you laughing, gasping and crying with laughter – you’ll never see Christmas in the same way again. A must for any Terry Pratchett fan.
John Green is one of my favourite authors and his latest book, Turtles all the way down is set to be top of many lists this Christmas. Aimed at teens, it follows sixteen-year-old Aza and her best friend Daisy’s pursuit to uncover the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett.
Another top pick this Christmas is the book of the new movie Wonder. I love reading books that movies are based on as there is always so much more to a book than they can fit into a movie and Wonder is top of my reading list at the moment.
For any Dr Who or Mr Men fan, Dr Tenth Christmas Surprise is a seasonal special to compliment the twelve Dr Men titles in the ongoing series written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves.
For younger children, You Choose in Space lets you create a new story each time. Which alien would you most like to be friends with? And what fantastically freaky food will you decide to munch for lunch? The possibilities are endless in this creative toolkit which inspires children to make their own stories.
Michael Rosen’s Chocolate Cake is so funny and full of silly noises. It’s basically a love letter to chocolate cake. Our children love books they can relate to, laugh along with and join in with too – Chocolate Cake ticks every box.
But, if you love a cook book and especially one the whole family can join in with, Nadiya Hussain’s Bake me a festive story combines storybook and cookbook. It will bring families into the kitchen to share this special time of year through cooking and stories.
If you’re looking for something that looks fun but is super practical too then Trunki’s range of travel and lunch products would be a great stocking filler. Everything comes in different colours and styles to make sure they suit the child perfectly. The Trunki Yondi pillow is the perfect companion for long journeys and the eat range includes lunch bags, drinks cups and snack pots making eating and drinking on the go that much easier – and fun too!
We can’t forget pets when looking at stocking fillers – and there’s so much more available than just the food items I featured above. A personalised pet bauble would make a wonderful gift and something that can be treasured year after year. This one from Elsie & Fleur is beautifully made and fantastic quality too.
Home Bargains also have a fantastic range of pet gifts available – from toys festive collars to pre-filled stocking of treats and even crackers! You could even get your dog their own Bawhide Dinner if you wanted! But, if you want something to help lead your pet into Christmas then an advent calendar would do just the job – the dog one is from Home Bargains and I found the cat one in Wilko – which our cat has already gone crazy for!
I am sure the stockings I put together this year will be varied, fun and perfect for everyone we’re buying for. What are your favourite stocking fillers?
Disclosure: The products featured were sent for inclusion in this gift guide however all opinions are my own.
