Star of the Week {The Ordinary Moments}

Welcome back to another week of the Ordinary Moments. If you haven’t joined in before this is a weekly linky that launches every Sunday morning and is open until midnight on the following Saturday. It’s a linky that celebrates any ordinary moments in your life – or the not so ordinary some weeks too. Basically – anything goes. I’ll be sharing and commenting on the posts that are linked up during the week and there’s a badge at the bottom of the post if you’d like to add it to yours too.

Star of the Week {The Ordinary Moments}

At the children’s school they have a routine where each week a child will be nominated as star of the week for showing one or more of the schools values. Since Little Man started in reception he has come out of school each Friday announcing which of his friends is the star of the week that week and being just so proud of them – and excited too.

But, this week was Little Man’s turn to be star of the week. And it’s quite a big deal when it’s your turn. You get to sit on the top table with the teachers at lunchtime – there’s a tablecloth and everything.

However, the main focus of star of the week is getting to celebrate your success with your friends, teachers and parents in the celebration assembly. So on Friday I went to the school assembly to see Little Man get his very first star of the week award.

When we had his first parents evenings a month or so ago, we were told that Little Man was completely focused on building things. He didn’t want to do anything except build and whatever they showed him to play with he would use it to build. But, he’s started trying new activities, moving away from building and embracing new things. So his star of the week certificate was for the school value of ‘opportunity’.

I am so proud of how far Little Man has come since he started school. Considering earlier in the year he was having speech therapy his speech is now nearly perfect. Everyone can understand him and he knows when he mispronounces words and tries again.

He’s also getting much more confident as each month passes. There was a time when he wouldn’t talk to other adults, where he would hide behind us and be so shy but gradually he has come out of his shell and each week we see him getting more confident, trying something new or speaking to someone he wouldn’t have gone anywhere near previously.

He’s loved meeting Father Christmas, chatting away to him and he will now happily pay for things in shops. He has come so far and for us his star of the week certificate just reinforces that. He is such an awesome little boy and I am so proud of how far he has come and how he is doing at school.

  1. This is such great news and it must be a real honour to get it. J often asks me why she’\s not been given the star award or the headteachers award, and actually she’s had it before, so trying to explain to her that she won’t necessarily get it every week because there’s lots of other children is pretty hard! Huge congratulations to him x
