Blogger Behind the Blog {A Slice of My Life Wales}

Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Leanne from A Slice of My Life Wales

Here’s Leanne with more about her blogging life:

Where did your blog name come from?

I picked A Slice of My Life Wales as I wanted to have a blog that grew with me and could comfortably fit in with any aspect of my life that I wanted it to. I knew that I would be writing in a personal level so a slice of my life just felt right. I unfortunately couldn’t get the name A Slice of My Life as it had been taken by a blogger who hadn’t updated in years, so I just added Wales to the end, I love living in Wales so it felt right.

When did you start your blog and why?

I started my blog in 2011. I didn’t know much about blogs at all and was looking for something to start as an online diary documenting my weight loss and my attempts to pay my debt off and cut down on spending. I had seen a linky called Frugal Feb going around on Twitter and decided to join in, so set up my blog. As mentioned earlier I didn’t know much about the whole blogging scene so had the shock of my life when someone commented on one of my posts! I then started following other blogs and realised that I could do so much more and it has just grown from there.

What did you do before you blogged?

Good question! My house was probably a lot cleaner back then!

What was your first post?

Frugal Feb Day one, just a little round up about what I’d bought that day and how how much I had spent. No introductions or anything as I didn’t actually realise people would read it!

What inspires you to blog?

I’ll be honest, now that blogging is my income money is a huge inspiration! That isn’t everything though, I enjoy helping other people by sharing reviews and I see it as a great way to record our memories to look back on in years to come. I also really enjoy the whole community that comes with blogging and take a great sense of pride in the fact that people actually read what I write!

What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?

Aria’s birth story, for all three of the questions. Her birth story was exciting, dramatic and emotional, it hit the right chord with so many people and I feel full of pride every time I tell it.

Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?

I’ve been lucky enough that I haven’t really received much negativity, I guess that means I haven’t made it yet! There were one or two very old outfit posts that had a few not so nice comments, and looking back at those outfits now I can see why!

Where do you see your blog in a year’s time?

Hopefully I will be consistently plodding along, maybe writing about a newborn, or at least a pregnancy by then – just don’t tell Spencer ha!

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

The community.

…and your least favourite?

The constant pressure, sometimes it is hard to switch off and just enjoy life. Occasionally we will have a day out where I’ll leave my camera at home and ignore my phone. It feels so naughty but so nice.

What’s the best blog post you have ever read?

Not a blog post as such but I absolutely loved Sian’s gender reveal video! It made me well up for all the right reasons.

What blog do you love to read and why?

Argghh this is so difficult! I have so many favourite blogs to read, if I had to pick just one I would probably say Hi Baby Blog, Hannah has a wicked sense of humour and her daughter is around the same age as mine so it is lovely to pop on and see how they are both doing.

Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?

I put a lot more effort into it all, my photography has improved immensely, I promote it a lot more and I enjoy it all a lot more.

Is blogging what you expected it to be?

No, as mentioned above I had no idea what blogging really was when I started. I had no idea this whole community existed and if someone had told me that I would make money from it I would have laughed in their faces. It has been so much more than what I thought it ever could be.

What’s been your favourite blog collaboration to date?

Ohhh tricky one, I’m sure to think of something else after I press send! The first that springs to mind is a collaboration with a cheese brand. Husband and I went to a local hotel for a Press Trip (we were the only local people there, in fact we were the only Welsh people there, everyone else had travelled quite a way!), we had lunch, drinks, we went out on a day trip where me and hubby ended up turning into tour guides as we knew the place very well! We stayed over night and were wined and dined and then had a lovely chat with Michelin Star chef Stephen Terry, he was telling us all about cooking at the Nato and it was all very surreal! It was a lovely, well thought out weekend which we both thoroughly enjoyed.

Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?

If any chocolate or cake brands would like to sponsor me in product that would be good! On a more serious note, I absolutely love dressing Aria in stylish clothes but don’t always have the funds to buy her stylish clothes, the dream would be for a stylish kids clothing brand to send out new clothing items for Aria on a monthly basis. If they happen to stock homeware and fancy sending that my way too that would be a bonus!

Have you had any blogging fails so far?

All the usual posting things that aren’t quite ready to be posted and just generally not having my site how I want it to look – I’m still not happy with it now as the mobile view is awful, I really need to pluck up the courage to ditch old faithful blogger and move to WordPress, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever be ready!

What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?

For a long time the dream has been to be able to leave work and make a living blogging, this year I have done that so I guess the hope now is that I can continue to do that for the foreseeable, and maybe one day become one of these blogging millionaire success stories haha…

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Not a lot to be honest! On a rare evening off I enjoy crashing on the sofa and binge watching programmes on Netflix. During the days I can often be found out and about walking with Aria, at a tots music & dance class or just chilling in the house watching Peppa Pig!

and lastly, tell us all a random fact about yourself

My labour was so fast that I never made it into hospital and ended up having my baby on my living room floor!
