I’ve written before about starting running and trying to get fit. I have now been running on and off for a couple of months – stopping for a few weeks with an injury and then having a break whilst I was decorating. Aside from that I was running every 2-3 days and enjoying it. I am hoping to lose some weight and generally get fitter over the coming months. I was aware though that the evenings were getting darker earlier and the weather was generally getting colder. When SportsShoes got in touch to see if I wanted to review some running clothing I took the opportunity to get some items that would keep me running into winter.
From the SportsShoes range of sporting goods I chose a whole running outfit. First I chose a Nike Sports Bra which I have known from the start of running is a necessity as a woman – you really need good support when running! The sports bra is well fitting, supportive and reversible so I can choose whether I’d like it to be black or grey although I haven’t ever thought to turn it round before wearing it!
Next I chose a pair of New Balance Running Tights that, unlike my other running bottoms, are full length to keep me warm whatever the weather. I mainly chose them because of the length and that they have a lovely pink panel to match my trainers! Yep, that’s how in depth my running gear choices were. But having now used the running tights for quite a while I can say that they fit well, are comfortable and have a handy pocket at the back to store my phone, keys or change when running, a great addition.
I chose a Adidas Tank Top to complete my normal running outfit and was impressed with the length of the top and I liked that the shape of it was the same as my sports bra around my arms and neck – no overlapping of lines! There was a panel cut out the back of the top which would look great if you weren’t wearing a sports bra underneath but for me I doubt the panel will ever show bare skin beneath it!
Lastly I chose a Helly Hansen Hooded Top to add another layer in the colder weather. When I saw this top online I wasn’t sure whether it would stand up to the cold nights and early mornings – Really I wanted a jacket but couldn’t find any that fit my pink and black specifications and were available in my size – if I’d been less fussy on colour I could have had so many of them – serves me right for having a pink running colour scheme! But the hooded top arrived and again, I wasn’t sure. The material was thin and light, I didn’t think it would keep me warm at all. But how wrong could I be. After each run I felt warmer than if I’d been wearing a fur coat – the quality of this top is incredible and running is just as easy as with just a vest on.
The Sports Shoes product range is vast and the prices are fantastic – all of the items I chose were heavily discounted and it was great to see what bargains SportsShoes had on their website. I have shopped with other online sports retailers and although the prices are similar SportsShoes have far superior brands but still incredible prices and the delivery was very quick too. SportsShoes will be my sports retailer of choice going forward and I’m already browsing for some new running shoes too!
