Over the last few years there have been two things that have been quite important to me – living as healthy a life as possible and saving money wherever I can. When I found out about Live Lean it sounded like it could fit into that lifestyle perfectly.
Like any family we always find buying meat so expensive, ending up buying lower quality options, bulking meals out with pulses and vegetables or just buying meat when it’s on offer. But Live Lean offer great value meat and meat boxes at affordable prices – and it’s a healthy option too.
Live Lean source the very best of British produce which passes the taste test and is sourced from the highest welfare farms where the animals enjoy a free and natural life. They sent us their 82-Piece Best of British Super Lean Meat Hamper for us to try their service for ourselves and when it arrived well packaged and in perfect condition – ready to pop in the fridge – I couldn’t wait to get cooking.
The hamper included chicken, sausages, burgers, steak, meatballs, mince and bacon. It had minimal packaging, was vacuum packaged for freshness and had the best part of a week until the earliest use by dates on it – by which point we’d planned our meals and had frozen anything that we wouldn’t be using immediately.
The first things we ate were the mince and meatballs – making our favourite chilli with the mince. I have actually never cooked with such good quality mince – next to no fat came out of it during cooking and the meatballs were really lovely and meaty.
The chicken burgers were pure chicken breast, perfect for a healthy burger at home. They were lovely in a bun with salad and made a really filling meal. We don’t have burgers at home often, and have never had chicken breast burgers before – they were definitely something we all enjoyed.
The chicken was amazing – one huge bag of chicken breasts which I split into bags with enough for a meal or two in each one. usually we buy smaller portions of chicken from the supermarket as it’s cheaper for us but these chicken breasts were both great value and great quality too. We have had so many meals with them already – fajitas, curry and even bacon wrapped chicken.
One of our favourite things was the sausages. Long and thin with hardly any fat in them, we used them in a toad in the hole and they were easily the best sausages we’ve ever cooked at home. The children usually prefer cheaper sausages but they loved these and Dave and I loved how genuinely meaty they tasted.
Such a treat for us was the steak. Rather than use it in cooking Dave and I just enjoyed a rump steak each for dinner. It was so full of flavour and such a luxury for us yet something that Live Lean make affordable and something that Dave and I are looking forward to having every month.
When I had planned our meals for this box I realised there was enough meat to feed our family of four for about twenty meals. Obviously as the children grow this will be slightly less meals but for now it works out as great value and makes meat more affordable – and cheaper than the supermarket for much better quality produce.
I am now looking to make a big purchase from Live Lean each month, which will cut down on our weekly grocery shops and give us great variety too. I love knowing that the meat is great quality and that it will give us more options for family meal times too.
As well as their fantastic meat hampers and bulk buy offers, Live Lean also have weekly specials which have to be seen to be believed – 2kg beef mince for just £4.50 at the moment! They also have gluten free options and other lifestyle additions like protein shakes and bars that could enhance a healthy, balanced diet. If that wasn’t enough, you can use the code REDHEAD5 for £5 off your first Live Lean order! Happy Shopping!
