As a child I always wanted a Scalextric and never had one of my own. It’s something I see as a classic toy of childhood, one of those toys that can be enjoyed for years and that can span age ranges too. When Little Man was sent My First Scalextric to review I’m really not sure who was more excited.
The My First Scalextric is the perfect scalextric introduction for children. It’s aimed at any child aged three and over and although they’ll need help setting it up, once built they would be able to play happily without too much adult input.
The scalextrix track is easy to put together although it does feel a bit flimsy in places. This isn’t really noticeable once constructed though and the cars move happily around the track. The set comes with two controls and two cars, both colour co-ordinated so that you can watch your own car moving around the track.
Both LP and Little Man took a while to get used to using the scalextric – although the cars have a set route it’s a real skill to go fast round the track but to not go too fast that you fly off at the bends. They loved trying to work out the perfect speed and after a few goes had mastered it – along with putting the cars back on the track themselves.
The My First Scalextric is powered by a standard ac plug and the only slight incnvenience is that the wires for the controllers get in the way whilst the children are playing – but, as they get older and understand more they’ll realise they have to stay on one side of the track and not dangle the leads across the track whilst they’re racing.
This scalextric set is fantastic and something any family home would love to have. It’s not too noisy, easy to set up and take apart again, comes in a sturdy box for storage and the children love it. A really great investment.
The My First Scalextric has an RRP of £29.99
