I have been to:
Mexico – Our honeymoon. 2 days after the ‘swine flu’ travel restrictions were lifted. Flying out on an almost empty plane to an almost empty resort. Chichen Itza, Coba, Xel-Ha Water Park, Snorkling in underground caves, Iguanas the size of small children, Fajitas for breakfast, lunch & dinner. All-You-Can-Eat Creperie, four-poster bed and sunken bath on our balcony. Amazing holiday, so much to see and do, would go back tomorrow!
Dominican Republic – My first holiday abroad and three months into our relationship. Monster trucks through ‘Jurassic Park’ landscapes and through local villages, Brugal Rum, Paradise Island. Cheap as chips Caribbean holiday – I felt like I’d won the lottery – ‘Caribbean’ had always been a dream growing up – ‘When we win the lottery…’
Tunisia – Hubby had planned to propose. Instead we spent a week in hospital with ‘a virus’ aka food poisoning. Unfortunately that overshadowed the holiday for us & tainted an otherwise beautiful country. Would never go back.
Egypt – Sand. More sand. 2 weeks of lazing on the beach. Went to Egypt, didn’t see Pyramids.
Rome – Amazing. This was for me what city breaks should be about. Culture, history and food! Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Vatican, St Peter’s Basilica and an audience with the Pope. So, so much to see and do. Everyone should go to Rome, walk until your feet hurt and your shoes are worn out, go in a hundred beautiful churches, eat pasta and squeeze in as much gelato as you can!
Paris – I should have gone to Paris before Rome. As I went after Rome I couldn’t help but be disappointed – too modern in comparison. Still a lot to see and do – Eiffel Tower and lunch half way up, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur. Great break not too far from England. Wouldn’t go back, would rather go back to Rome.
Las Vegas – Our ‘Before Babies’ holiday. A complete splurge! Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, So much food, Casinos, Blackjack. Hiring an open top Mustang and driving along the Interstate, Walking the length of the strip until my blisters had blisters. Amazing holiday. Penthouse Apartment with the biggest bath I’ve ever seen. ‘A kettle? A kettle for tea?’ Oh how British we were. 5 days of seeing/doing everything. Wouldn’t go back – seen it all! Too many other places to go visit.
I would like to go to:
Florida –We will be going to Disney World in 2021 at the latest. Savings plan set up and forever singing ‘M-I-C-K-E-Y, M-O-U-SE, Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse. Excited already.
New York – Would have loved to visit NY before children but couldn’t afford it. I dream of Christmas shopping there, ice skating in Central Park & seeing the Empire State Building.
Australia – Australia to me is a massive holiday. Such a long flight that we’d have to stay there for 3+ weeks to really see enough. We’ve planned to go when Hubby retires, hire a car or RV and see everything! To me, the whole of Australia is like Summer Bay!
Where do you dream of going?
